On page 110 it says “So saying , he the diamond from his pocket and handed it to Caderousse. “Take this, my friend.” he said, “it's yours” “What! for me alone?” cried Caderousse.
Gary Paulsen, the author of “Hatchet” describes one of Brian’s traits by using actions. As stated by this quote, “When he was done he covered the two piles with grass he tore from the lake shore to keep the flies off and went back outside”, (69) Brian used his surrounding environment to produce an answer for a complicated problem. An ordinary person wouldn 't thought of a solution as quickly as Brian did in this particular situation. The answer for this problem seems simple, after you have figured it out. But it’s not simple while you’re looking for it.

You may wonder how people live with power, loyalty, revenge, and fear. Almost every character that was killed in Long Way Down sought revenge and got it, then they faced the consequences of being killed. The story states “There's a code of conduct, and what those rules are is number one, no crying, number two, no snitching, number three, always seek revenge.”, cited on page 31.
Throughout the book, Brett reveals himself as a tough, hero willing to do anything such as defending and protecting patrols overnight. Not until later in the book, Jack (member of Brett 's squad) was injured and taken to Dr. Morgan 's clinic. He reported that Jack had been severely injured and could not do anything about him because of the mass amount of internal bleeding. At that point, Jack explained that it was Brett and his squad who set the people in the tent on fire. Herb and the committee waited for Brett to arrive and he confessed it.
If your civil rights were taken away, would you fight to protect your rights or watch and let your civil rights drift away? Marcus, a main character in the book Little Brother, was near the bay bridge in San Francisco when it was blown up by terrorists. He was blamed for it by the DHS (Department of Homeland Security). Due to the bombing, the city was put under heavy watch by the DHS and everyone was treated as a potential terrorist, especially Marcus. Throughout the book, Marcus fought against the DHS for the rights to privacy of himself and the civilians of San Francisco.
In the novel, Fools Crow, written by James Welch, the act of revenge is shown numerous times and is an underlying theme throughout. These acts of revenge reflect the Blackfeet way of life. Yellow Kidney, Owl Child, and the rest of the tribe all show signs of revenge and each express it in their own way. This is especially prevalent with Yellow Kidney and Owl Child as they seem to be constantly seeking revenge of some sort. Yellow Kidney wanted revenge on Fast Horse throughout the novel.

These feelings and emotions occur in “The Wednesday Wars,” by Gary D. Schmidt. Making your own decisions is essential to growing up and becoming self-reliant.
In consequence, the bevy of knowledge now at the Monster’s disposal, ensures the final stage of his transformation, while inevitably leaving him without motivation. Notably, hurt feelings fuel the Monster to take cut ties. “The feelings of kindness and gentleness (…) gave place to hellish rage and gnashing of teeth. Inflamed by pain, I vowed eternal hatred and vengeance to all mankind” (18. 143). The active resistance leaves the Monster with emotional wounds.
A quote that stands out to me from the film “Dirty Wars” is “Kill its way to victory.” I found that this quote really captures the overall theme of the movie. The U.S. goes to ruthless extremes to get what they need, no matter who or what they have to annihilate. These orders are given directly from the White House and passed through American troops and an elite military unit, the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC.) JSOC are not only given orders, but also a hit list issued by President Barack Obama of people to kill.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be living your life in fear? Constantly being wanted, and living on the run and in fear only because you are a divergent? I have read the chapters 1-27 in the book Insurgent, in the beginning Tris and Tobias were on their way away from the city and away from the erudite, who were taking control. After they find out that the erudite are searching for them, they decide to take a train back to the center of the city and stay in the warehouse with a bunch of other divergent.
In the past, the ultimate outcome of war has been freedom and sovereignty, but along the way many casualties had to be made. Many wars in history have rewarded nations with liberation and freedom from tyranny. For example, the American Revolution provided America with independence from Britain and proved that they could prosper on their own. Although independence was gained, some say that the end result could have been attained without the fatalities and violence of war. They don’t believe the freedom was really worth the fight.
In Cleave’s novel, Gold, his characters face destruction in a different manner, and must cope with the pressure and endure the toll it takes on their minds. Structured differently than Cleave’s other novels, Gold explores the destruction competition can cause, rather than violence. Critic Margaret Heffernan analyzes the frequency of competition in different areas and the positive and negative effects it has. She uses sports as one area in which competition can cause destruction: “Competition enlivens routine with drama, but when the stakes are high, so are the costs[...] sport--demonstrates how destructive competition is, when it comes to playing for the big prizes and huge rewards that professional athletes now pursue” (Heffernan). Skeptical claims have been recognized and allows the public to ask for strong evidence to support their claims. It is not right to falsely accuse a person of a crime they did not commit, but it still happens today.
Tom Robinson is a mockingbird in that he doesn't do one thing wrong. All he does is provide help to the people he interacts with. That is exactly how he got in trouble. Tom Robinson was helping Mayella with some chores. He was humming a melody and when he chopped up the dresser drawers.
He places the lives of his men in danger because he values rank more than his men, and when it becomes apparent that his men can not win he declares, “If those little sweethearts won’t face German bullets, they’ll face French ones”(2). At the loss of the battle, General Mireau places the loss of the battle on his soldiers, calling them cowards. To save his own hide, he allows three innocent men to be tried, convicted, and shot for the sake of his perceived glory. Of all the characters, that which displays the most cowardice in their path to glory, is Lieutenant Roget. Not only does he run from the enemy, but when it comes time to choose which of his men are to die for General Miraue, Lieutenant Roget selects the one man that could call out his own cowardice, Corporal Paris.
