In America culture has been turned into a commodity. It's now something people think they can reproduce and sell. Culture is a distict object and has so many charcaterristics that makes up specific ones that it cant manufactured. Culture itself can not be created as a commodity, everything that is being sold as culture in America is a knock-off as well as offensive to that culture. An example of this would be Taco Bell, Olive Garden, and Popeyes. This is also where industrialization comes into play, with many American companies trying to copy the culture of other places. Taco Bell is intended to be a Mexican Grill but it's not authentic mexican food at all. Olive Garden is intended to be an Italian resturant but the food served is a counterfeit …show more content…

Unless it is discussed, we as americans don't even realize this (Optional Ethnicities: For Whites Only?). I had no idea that Taco Bell was not real Mexican food until I went to an actual authentic Mexican restaurant. America puts its twist on these cultural things and remakes them. Obviously tacos are of hispanic origin but Taco Bell tacos are americanized as can be. They even include american cheddar cheese, which is not even used in hispanic Mexican food. This could also be seen as a type of racism (Strange Enigma of Race in Contemporary America). These are examples of Americans labeling other ethnicities and they've even caused social problems. There's a meme going around of the Popeyes TV Ceo who is a African American women said to be from Louisiana, but the real Ceo of the company is white, as well as when Taco Bell used a chihuahua in a sombrero as their mascot years ago. Because Americans have been led into these misconceptions it is futile to try to resist them now it's too late. Even if these companies were to tell us the truth I doubt it would even leave a dent in their businesses. How could I blame
