Ritzer argues that the local is beginning to die, as grobalization is at an all time high (Ritzer, 2007, p.159.) With this being said, Ritzer states that simply by grobalizing something it destroys heterogeneity and often times leads to homogeneity, as a result of this it greatly alters, if not destroys the local (Ritzer, 2007, p. 158.) For the most part, this all can be seen with Americanization and McDonaldization and the impacts these process have on the local. The practices that are established here in the United States are being adopted across the globe. For example, the infamous Black Friday tradition is starting to appear in several countries thanks to the success it has here in America. This yearly tradition alone, encourages individuals to consume nothing as much as they can. This also plays a factor in the death of the local, thanks to the practices here in America being adopted in other countries as well. Ultimately the goal of Americanization is to make individuals value the consumption of nothing, this of course devalues something and often times forces the shops that do continue to sell something shut down as they can no longer compete with retail giants like Wal-Mart who sell purely nonthings. It’s difficult to challenge the powerful due it being centrally conceived, however with the nothing those companies are producing one can simply turn that item into something. This can be done, by modifying it to the point where it is no longer seen like the rest, but rather unique. In other words, personalize nothing in order to turn it into something. On top of this demand something from corporations if not simply do not shop at your local Wal-Mart. This is the only way one can cause damage to a powerful company that essentially is recognized world
