In 2014, around 5.8 million students took part in online education (Friedman). Many students who participate in online education work hard and do their best to learn, but with so many students there is bound to be a few who disrespect the privilege of staying home and working on a computer all day. Some believe that online education is not helpful to students because it does not give them real-world connections, but it can. Many students and teachers find online education helpful because students can take many courses online and the teacher can stay at home, most days, instead of commuting to work.
Online education makes it so an anyone with a computer or a tablet can participate in classes; you never have to ride the smelly crowded bus to school again. In the article, Online Charter Schools Expand Options and Benefits Students we read, “noting that it can meet the needs of students who do not thrive in a traditional classroom” (Van Beek). There are many different programs for online education. One example in The Online Challenge to Higher Education, “massive online courses (MOOCs) present an opportunity to revolutionize the availability and presentation of classes” (Bonvillian). MOOCs are a new and rising form of education that can change the world!
