In a religion supposedly full of love, Christians have failed to suppress feelings of contempt for homosexuals within the church, directly disobeying one of the foremost commandments in the Bible; love one another. In the verse John 13:34-35, Jesus states “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” In direct relation to that verse of scripture, any hatred or dismay towards fellow humans is not a sign of a disciple of God. I am a Christian, and seeing dismay or contempt towards these people angers me, as we are supposed to love one another, not hate fellow sinners. Technically, people who are against homosexuality in the Church are correct. Homosexuality is a sin, meaning that homosexuals must repent just as a murderer or adulterer should. However, there are other laws in the Old Testament that heterosexual Christians surely do not follow. For example, “Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard”(Leviticus 19:27). Essentially stating that haircuts and shaving is prohibited. Also see Deuteronomy 17:2-7, where it proclaims that if someone is a different religion than Christianity, you must kill them.While most people of the Christian faith now would call such laws ludicrous, they still believe in other laws of the same books. It is hypocritical to think that way, and I believe it is completely unacceptable to call themselves Christians if they act in such a way. Much like the Constitution, I believe there is room for interpretation in the Bible, and as society has moved away from some of the dated laws of this country, Christians must do the same in our
