My whole life I have always wanted to do something where I have the opportunity to impact people for the better. I once was very uncertain about my career goals, but now I am more sure of the direction my life is going. Optometrists are now and have been a basic necessity of society. The field of optometry requires significant education that will in the end allow for a challenging yet fulfilling line of work. I had the opportunity to interview Doctor Lavar Kofoed, an esteemed optometrist in our area. Doctor Kofoed has been practicing optometry in the Treasure Valley for the last twenty years. He is the CEO of LWK PC, the parent company of Doctor Kofoed and Associates - The Idaho Eye Pros. Doctor Kofoed is responsible for all the optometrists for Doctor Barnes Eyemart Express in Idaho. He graduated from Fruitland High in the year 1985. In 1992 he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Brigham Young University and then a Doctorate from Pacific University College of Optometry in the year 1996. After graduating, students must first complete either ninety semester credits of college, or a bachelor’s degree in a science related field. Then, students must take the Optometry College Admission Test (OCAT) and apply to a school of optometry. Requirements for admission to optometry schools include college courses in English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Upon completion of a four year program at an accredited optometry school, individuals must pass written and clinical state board examinations to become licensed.
