Organization Three: Student Life and Learning

1. Which organization did you choose? Why did choose this organization?

The third organization I decided to research is Student Life and Learning. I choose Student Life and Learning because my mom works in the Student Life and Learning office at a different IU campus. I see how she has impacted many students lives by connecting them to different things throughout the campus. I wanted to see what the Student Life and Learning has to offer at the Bloomington Campus.

2. Explain what experience have you had with this organization. Do you know anyone who has utilized this organization? If the answer is no, why do you think this might be a potentially great resource for you while at IU?

The experience

Student Life and Learning offers services for students to have a meeting with an involvement advisor. This provides students with information of where to go next academically. Student Life and Learning also offers involvement fairs in the beginning of semesters. The purpose of the involvement fair is to let students become aware of what clubs and organizations they can become involved with based off of their interests and majors. To inform students on what is happening in student organizations, Student Life and Learning creates the Hoosier Connection which is an e-newletter. Students are able submit articles to inform other students about their organization. Student Life and Learning also provides leadership programs, to educate students on how to become a better leader in their community. Students can take leadership classes, attend leadership program events and even meet with a leadership advisor. Student Life and Learning also provides means to allow students to become more engaged in their community. They do this by creating events that allow students to volunteer on the campus and in the Bloomington

I thought it was interesting how the Student Life and Learning site provides a link to the BeINvolved website. The website allows the student to track their individual community service hours as well as their involvement throughout the IU campus. I also thought it was interesting Student Life and Learning has the Dean’s Leadership Fund. This fund helps raise money to educate students in leadership courses, and also allows students to participate in leadership retreats. Lastly, I found it particularly interesting there is a Herman B. Wells Greek Education fund. This fund is solely dedicated to the leadership development of Greek Chapters. I find this interesting because I am in a Greek Chapter here at IU and love that there is a fund to help improve our leadership
