Outlaws Motorcycle Gangs Biker gangs have become popular lately. TV shows such as Sons of Anarchy have glamorized the lifestyle these groups live. More clearly they are glamorizing Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMGs), also known as 1%ers and motorcycle clubs (MCs). These gangs are more devious than the way they are portrayed in the media. There are several well-known gangs: Pagans, Hells Angels, Banditos, Iron Cross, Mongols, Wind Walkers, and Outlaws. They have been infiltrated and studied a few times which allows for a more accurate sociological analysis of the groups. These gangs are born, bred, and fed in deviance. Falco detailed his exploits in his book, Vagos, Mongols, and Outlaws: My Infiltration of America’s Deadliest Biker Gangs (Shatkin). He managed to enter into these brotherhoods not once, but three times. It is impressive even though it allows shows a lack of regard for his own life. In some ways all the men in OMGs do, none are shy of death or danger. “Hang arounds” are women who basically do just that they hang around these clubs and want to be a part of the world, however they can. “Ole ladies” are girlfriends and wives of patched members. There are also property girls, women who are protected by the club from others, but just as worthless, in the eyes of members, as a hang around. The lower tier are subjected to rape, drugs, beatings, forced prostitution, any abuse a member sees fit (Bosmia). The upper tier are subjected to all of the same except there usually has to be a violation of some sort to cause a punishment.
