The Training Process for a Marathon. The training process for a marathon is no easy task, but if a person follow these four main steps you will be on your way to conquering a marathon. A marathon is a distance of 26.2 miles. There are a few things to be aware of before a person decides to start training. This is a long process. It isn’t something that a person can just get up and do. A person has to start small. Step one Getting Started: To start training for a marathon a person must first get some mileage on a person’s body, this means before a person start a marathon plan, run about 20-30 miles a week to start with, that way once a person starts it isn’t such a shock to the body. Block one is base mileage a person must build a weekly mileage over time. A person can do this by running three to five times per week or more if a person want. Block two is the long run. Doing a long run helps a person’s body get used to the long distances which is huge to distance runners. Block three is speed work, running tempo runs and intervals can help a person in this stage the point is to increase the body’s cardio capacity. Speed is optional if the runner wants to put it in their plan. This step will make running feel easy due to the fact that it increases your aerobic base. Intervals are a perfect way to increase speed. In an interval it consist of running at a hard pace and resting for a sec then hitting it hard again. For example a person might run four by one mile repeats. This is when a person runs one mile really fast four times. Tempo runs also help out a lot in this kind of situation. Tempo runs are longer than intervals. They are usually four to ten miles, depending on what training phase you are in on your plan. This workout trains the mind and body to work hard and challenge itself for longer periods of time, like during a marathon
