I completed reading the second novel by New York Times bestselling author David Goggins, Never Finished. I then listened to JRE's podcast "1906," which featured David Goggins as a guest. Both of these works contain hints of perseverance, hard work, and making the most out of your situation. While reading through Goggins' second book and listening to his podcast appearance, I found a common theme. Goggins does something many other self-help authors do not do—he shares a story of how he turned his life around by telling his personal anecdote. Instead of making excuses because he was still recovering from surgery, he decided to email the race director that way he would have to do the race. When talking about his training plan, David said: “I would find time in my schedule to put in the 100-mile work weeks required to be ready for this longest run of my career”(Goggins 157). Using characterization, David shows himself using this "start now figure out the details later" attitude as an example for readers. The podcast also details Goggins' adventures in different areas and how he dominated them. Goggins goes deeper into the lead-up to the Moab 240, explaining how he was becoming a part-time savage due to injuries from that race. He thought this race would be the "new level" he needed to reach in order to become his former self. His attitude (start now, figure it out later) allowed him to find the maximum amount of strength and endurance his body could handle. During this book, I learned what it is like to truly work hard and persevere through whatever is thrown at
