Slide 1 How many of us sitting here feel like the teacher in this slide. We sometimes get frustrated and drained until we reach our last ounce of patience. You have tried in every possible way to help the struggling the child but to no avail. This might be since the child you are all thinking of at the moment has a learning problem. Slide 2 But relaying your frustration to the child is never the solution. It is clear that grasping basic concepts and skills are perplexing and frustrating to them. Because it is so difficult for children with learning difficulties to master certain tasks, they often experience their own frustration, anger, a low self-confidence and even depression. The child may know just what he or she wants to accomplish be it by saying it or writing it, but getting the point across isn’t a straight path. Some of the basic interventions include: • Scaffolding The breaking up of long complex procedures into chunks. This achieved by providing constant and repeated directions / instructions. However after a certain point when the child understands the required procedure the instructions and stages carried out decreases. It is important that the student receives prompts along the way. • Multisensory Instruction This incorporates what the child hears, sees, how they move as well as how they feel into the instruction.
