The staff weren’t listening to me. I wouldn’t attend class because I couldn’t learn as quickly as others or keep anything in my head. It was difficult
We learned the material in class and was assigned homework everyday. However, when the test came along, the results I obtained were devastating. Test after test, I kept getting C’s, D’s and even E’s. Every time I get a bad test score back, I would shrug it off. “The next test will be better,” I kept telling myself.
Unbroken, is a story about Louis Zamperini who has has survived many war battles. Louis has gone to war and survived, then was called back to keep fighting; however, this time, their plane crashed, and he landed in the middle of the ocean on a raft he had with him. Throughout all of this, Louis was brave and resilient to be able to stay alive in the ocean for 40 days. In Unbroken, by Hillenbrand, Louis had fought to stay alive after a rough patch in his life, and shows the audience that overcoming obstacles makes people better and stronger in the end.
I do believe that every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something good. Whatever obstacle that is thrown at us we always have to find a way to solve it out, they always may seem like the impossible but everything is fixable. So with that being said, yes every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something better. Some people say that obstacles like that or having disadvantages can’t turn into something good. They say it makes people even fear more because they are scared and don’t think they have a way out of it.
People can overcome adversity in many ways through the help from the government, hard work and determination, and skills. Have you ever experienced a hardship that you thought you would never overcome? Did you find some way to power through those tough times? Some people never get through the worst times in their life, but there are many that do find a way to deal with those overwhelming obstacles they face. How do you think you would overcome adversity?
Overcoming adversity has helped me grow into a responsible young adult through the trials I have faced. Growing up, I was raised by my mother and older sister. I have watched my mother overcome the difficulties of being a single mother without support. She would work tirelessly to afford our small apartment. Before their divorce, my father had abused her both mentally and physically, leaving her with emotional and financial scars.
Time changes many things, from the progression of the horse and buggy to the invention of the automobile. If there’s one thing in this world that can be guaranteed is that time changes all things, and one area that we can see this most clearly is in the progression of American education. From a time when only the wealthy were able to afford the privilege of education, we have progressed into a society that demands education for all youth. Many historical figures have contributed to the changes that have led to the progression in education. Each of these figures have their own ideas and goals to lend to the educational society of their day.
To pass with an A- for the semester, I knew that I needed to change how I approached this challenging course. Instead of staring at my notes like I normally did and calling it “studying,” I used my textbook to review topics that would be on the test according to the study guide. Afterwards, I rehearsed the information aloud, making sure I could provide a comprehensive understanding of each topic. If I was vague about any term, I returned to the book to review. No matter where I was, any free time I had gone into rehearsal.
The obstacles that I have overcome molded me to be the person that I am today. Anna Harrington’s, “Where There is a Will, There is a Way” refers to how I have handled my employment circumstance over the last 14 years (Harrington,2012). Resilience has been wonderful but also a dreadful problem for me. I have learned to take resilience and set goals with it. Continuing to strive for better, even through tough times, have allowed me to face all fears with pride.
Obstacles in our lives force us to better ourselves due to the lessons we learn. In April of 2015, I was struck with the realization that I was going to have to learn one of those lessons. I was also struck with a six foot long wooden beam straight to the head. I was soon diagnosed with a concussion. I then became aware that this was not my first or second concussion; this was my eighth concussion.
As a student, I have faced so many incoming obstacles in my life, that it is natural for myself. One of the bigger challenges that I have recently faced was almost getting cut by the Junior Varsity Tennis Team. This happened to me last year and I can remember it like it was yesterday. I am pretty sure I had other significant challenges that I have faced before, but this one tested my ability to work hard and keep myself motivated. Last year I was trying to find something different to do because I was always being lazy and would be on my phone all the time.

Obstacles can be hard to overcome. My mother, friend and older cousin went through some obstacles that was hard for them to overcome but they overcame them the best way they could. Everyone goes through obstacles in life. My mom for example went through a hard obstacle of whether she should go to school or not. She remained in school for about four more months but she started lacking on her work, so she later decided to stop going to school, she was about 15 years old when she made the decision to stop going to school.
Everyone encounters obstacles in every aspect of life. From school or work all the way down to friends and personal relationships. Each person has some kind of struggle, if not multiple, that they face each day. Obstacles help us grow, help us learn and help us figure out new ways to do things. As a college student, these struggles often become more apparent as one progresses throughout their program of study.
Did you know every human body has 206 bones? Instead of having 206 bones, I have 206 ½ today. This is definitely a story I was never going to forget about, with all the pain, tears, and laughs involved. In P.E. one day in 8th grade, for our unit we played basketball.
