Lawson Bennett Mrs. Tollett English 10 Honors 6 March 2023 The Hero Chris Kyle Chris Kyle, the American Sniper, was the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history and is an extraordinary hero. Kyle grew up in Odessa, Texas, spending a lot of his time in school and hunting with his father and brother. Eventually, he joined the Navy and became a Navy SEAL. After leaving the military, Kyle continued to help people by supporting disabled veterans. Kyle saved many people’s lives with his pinpoint accuracy and servant heart; for this reason, Kyle is a hero. It took Kyle some time to realize that he wanted to be in the military. With each tour, the enemy forces became more advanced and more dangerous (Klein). Kyle survived many helicopter crashes, enemy fire, and nearly being blown up (“Chris Kyle”). The bounty on his head continued to grow and got up to twenty-thousand dollars (Klein); everyone wanted to kill Kyle. Nevertheless, he persevered through his mission to protect his fellow servicemen. Although Kyle loved serving in the military, he reluctantly retired and returned home to focus on his marriage and family (Nelson). Life at home was difficult for Kyle. He missed the military and his comrades and drank heavily, suffered depression, and stopped working out as a result (Klein). Kyle’s depression had many contributing factors, but Kyle suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), watching his friends die, and coming home to his daughter being sick definitely contributed to his depression (Nelson). The veteran had severe PTSD and this caused him to snap and shoot Kyle and kill him (Klein). Even with his horrific end to his life, Kyle was honored and celebrated for his heroism. The amount of mourners that attended Kyle’s funeral was so big that Kyle’s family held his funeral in the Dallas CowBoys’ stadium with Kyle resting on the 50-yard line (Klein). Though he is gone, his legacy is still supporting people to this day. The partnership Kyle started with FITCO has allowed them to extend its helping hand to many disabled veterans in the United States (Nelson). However, Kyle did not only help disabled veterans, scholarships have been set up in his name to help some of the next generation achieve their dreams (“Chris Kyle”). Kyle was a great hero who saved many lives. With each kill out of the one hundred sixty, Kyle saved many of his fellow comrades (Klein). However, Kyle did not only save people by sniping. Kyle gave time and money to help disabled veterans readjust to civilian life (“Chris Kyle”). He was passionate about helping others because he went through and overcame his own bouts of depression
