The Story of Chris Kyle There was much more to Chris Kyle’s life than people know. Chris Kyle, born on April 8, 1974, in Odessa, Texas was a member of SEAL Team 3, and served four tours in the Iraq War from 1999 to 2009. He was said to have shot and killed more than 160 targets, but to him and his “army brothers”, the claimed kills was closer to 255. He was awarded two Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars, a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals. Kyle was only 38. The man that had shot them was Eddie Ray Routh, 25 years old at the time. Routh was a corporal in the Marines from June 2006 to January 2010(Sterbenz). Kyle and Littlefield had brought him to the shooting range for practice, when Routh pulled out a pistol and shot them both, killing them instantly. Routh had been brought to a mental hospital twice after the war because he suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Bradley did many things to prepare for this movie, including working with the SEALs who worked with Kyle to train for the part, including Kevin Lacz, Kyle’s sniper partner during his last two tours, and gaining 45 pounds of muscle so he could be as big as Chris was. Bradley Cooper had to talk to Kyle before his death to tell him how much he wanted to star in this movie, and Chris thought that he would be the best fit, and they started the production of the movie.(Deutsch) On February 11, 2013 Chris Kyle’s Memorial Service was held at The Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Thousands of people lined up along highways and on bridges to salute the fallen soldier. Once at the Stadium, nearly 7,000 people filled in the seats just to honor the American Soldier. While bringing the American flag draped coffin into the stadium, bag pipes and singers lined the way to the Cowboys star in the middle of the field where he was placed for the first part of the ceremony.
