As a patient who was paralyzed for months, Mrs. Baier relied on others daily. She expressed how team members who treated her without compassion made her stay more difficult in the ICU; however, those who expressed compassion and sympathy made the stay more
The patients are on our hands and its important to treat them as we would like to be treated. They are counting on us.
Paramedics play an important role in emergency response, They provide life-saving care and support to those in need. Despite their essential role, paramedics face difficult challenges that are quite frankly unnoticed by society. Not only are they exposed to traumatic situations daily, but they also experience physical, emotional, and psychological traumas that can have long-term impacts on their well-being. In this essay, I will give an insight to the types of traumas that paramedics go through, and show that greater awareness and support is needed to address the difficult challenges of this profession.
A doctor from Virgina University stated “Our teams put their lives in danger when they go out to rescue someone else’s” (George 8) We do pay medical and rescue expenses quite often, these people are risking their lives every time they have a dangerous task. Although the rescue teams are putting their lives in danger in rescuing others, it’s their jobs. They should be having to do this since they have gone through schooling and multiple tests for them to develop their career. Their bosses should be in charge of their
Medical personnel are given a very difficult job, to save people lives. In this difficult
Without the nurse having a spiritual base, they may treat others with bias, instead of with love, respect, or acceptance; patients, families, and co-workers can feel these biases. Regardless of the nurse’s personal beliefs, it is essential to be open to lending a helping hand for those who are in spiritual distress. This helping hand does not mean that the nurse must pray or take part in a ritual in which they are uncomfortable. Instead, they should be a shoulder to cry on or a hand to hold in times of stress and trauma. Leaving a patient alone in their pain is unkind when a simple gesture from their nurse can heal spiritual
Caring is the practice of “authentic presence” (Berkhospice, 2016, p. 1). Anybody can give out medications and change a wound dressing, but a great nurse will provide care with meaningful human-to-human
I chose the job of paramedic because I wish to fall into this job as I progress and get older. What exactly is a paramedic? A paramedic is a medical worker who is trained to administer on site emergency care. What roles and responsibilities are paramedics faced with? There are many places and organizations where you may find paramedics.
A paramedic receives the call that someone is hurt and within an instant, they're on the road, ready to take action. Knowing only minor details, they cant fully asses the situation until they're present at the scene. They wont know if that person is awake or not, whether they're calm or crazy, they just act and trust that their training will kick in to overcome the high stress that is present. One would say its too much work, thankfully there are those out there to take the challenge.
Empathy and compassion are foundational, as they help in understanding and sharing the feelings of clients, building trust and a safe environment where individuals feel respected and valued (Smith & Jones, 2021). Advocacy is essential in ensuring that the rights and needs of people experiencing barriers in healthcare settings are met (O'Connor, 2022). Facilitating clear interactions not only with clients but also with family and other healthcare professionals ensures that all parties are informed and requirements are fulfilled by promoting clear communication (Doe, 2020). Interpersonal skills promote teamwork with medical specialists and local resources, thus encouraging a holistic approach to treatment. These values and skills collectively enhance my ability to provide meticulous, polite, and efficient assistance, thereby ensuring that healthcare services are equitable and accessible to every
Although Emergency Medical Services (EMS) systems have been around for decades, it is still perceived as the stepchild of health care services. It is one of the lowest paying professions with little room for advancement, yet high in demand by the citizens who need prompt pre-hospital emergency care. However, over the years EMS systems have made several advancements, making EMS more progressive and modern. Since the White Paper was release in 1966, several improvements have been made, including education in EMS. Currently, there is controversy on the issue if paramedics should possess some type of college degree, whether it is a two year, 4 year, or even higher.
On page 114 a patient stated “sometimes when I am having a bad day, you know, why is this happening to me? I say to God”. As nurse, it is important to help a patient understand their struggles and offer to pray with them. This chapter emphasize on the power of praying with a patient when possible. A family member states on page 115 “I was particularly touched when she prayed for Jonathan in the Hospital”.
However, on more than one occasion, I was able to interact with the patients in the emergency department. During these times, I worked to console them, and asked if they needed anything. In these situations, I was on the other side of the story, providing a small amount of care to the patients, in return, I could see glimpses of relief on their faces. If I could provide a small amount of care as a volunteer, then I should be able to provide full relief as a
It has been widely documented that around the last few decades, there has been a lot of awareness regarding the importance and recognition of practitioners of general medicine, community nurses as well as professionals who are involved in the primary health care of people belong to the urbanised city of Scotland. These groups of professionals have been found to provide integral support to patients who are almost in the verge of losing their lives in the hand of these practitioners and near and dear ones. On one side, while the care and support being rendered to the patients by the general practitioners gives them a sense of satisfaction and recognition which is above any materialistic reward, this becomes the primary reason why many people
In the past I have shown my strength in this area of nursing care when looking after family members that have fallen victim to sickness. Whenever someone tells me that they are not feeling well, I immediately jump into action and try my best to make sure that they feel “cared for” .The feeling of pride and satisfaction I experience after caring for a person that is unwell is what originally made me choose nursing as a career. Caring is a basic attribute of human growth and development (Griffin 1983). This is why, as a nursing student I know it is such an important strength to be utilised when helping a patient to feel better.
