School partnerships with external parties are arguably a gateway to increased knowledge, skills, relationships with others and understanding of the world of work. Bonds between schools and outside companies can allow for many to become more aware of the outside world and to become more adaptable to it. Therefore, the companies and schools can debatably improve in terms of learning, understanding, attendance etc. Despite this, there continue to be a variety of challenges that external parties and schools face such as time management and shortage of, although there are ways of solving these which should be explored to further increase the positive impact on the schools.

These parties can range from another school to parents of pupils to a company out with. One school, St Paul’s High School, created a partnership with the parents to create a seven-day parents evening as to give the parents time to visit the school at more appropriate times for them. This change impacted greatly as before only 30-40% (Donnelley, 2009) of parents appeared but now, it was raised to 95% (Donnelley,2009). These statistics show how quickly a relationship with parents and teachers can develop and grow within a short amount of time if a partnership and opportunity are raised to both parties. As previously mentioned, increased skills and knowledge can be a viable point of success on the schools receiving end of a partnership. Castlemilk High School and St Margaret Mary’s Secondary School created a partnership to achieve this, they set out to increase the subjects senior pupils in both schools could be offered, increasing the achievements of the pupils and the pupil’s attendance.
