Schools must make the school environment one in which young people can learn and students are safe. School officials need to be enabled to enforce discipline and the upholding of the schools rules. To create a healthy and safe school community I believe that the teachers and in general, the administration play the key role by practicing and knowing the policies and establishing these to promote specific values. Collaboration, strong relationships and understanding between all staff members through practices such as PD days or staff meetings allows for congruency and harmony within the school and will reflect on the students accordingly. Potential Area for Growth: My potential area of growth regarding TQS 6 is in maintaining awareness of, and responding in accordance with, requirements authorized under the School Act and other relevant legislation. Most importantly, the “maintaining awareness” piece. Truthfully, it is daunting to realize and keep up with all the responsibilities that a teacher must be aware of and must do.

A school based community would need to be form to help improve the school. The school based community will involve everyone in the decision making process. I would seek feedback from parents to see what they expect from the school. A discussion of how teachers and parents can contribute to the vision will also be added. The stakeholders will have to understand their roles in order for process to be successful.

For children and young people to develop positive relationships it is crucial for adults to model effective communication in the classroom. As a teacher or teaching assistant, you have the platform to facilitate social learning and lead by example. One of the main reasons why effective communication is important, is because it makes children feel happy and comfortable at school, and in your presence. Not only will this help children to thrive in a learning environment, but will also filter through to their lives at home and outside of school.

As a teacher, it is my responsibility to share information on the development of the child and have a clear and constant flow of dialogue with the family. This will enable both parties to deal with any issues that may arise within the family, school or community. It also my belief that parents should have an active part in their child’s learning and be able to lend a hand whenever necessary, and having open communication with them will allow this transparency and connection between home and school. The community is vital in ensuring that the facilities around the community and school is appropriate for the different children and families to live in and grow. A very good example of this successful collaboration is the Reggio Emilia approach in Italy.
Today’s in complex global scenario societal and school environment in which we are living where teachers are faces challenging classroom management troubles, it has become necessarily required to establish partnerships between parents and teachers as a strategy to support students’ learning and development.
