In laboratories procedures should be clear to all members of the workplace because all employees need to know everything that goes on in the workplace in order to ensure that all employees are comfortable in the work they are doing.

The advantages of following procedures and having clear lines of communication is that it keeps the workplace under control and organised, when procedures are carried out in laboratories it is recorded in a Laboratory Information Management System where all information is noted down electronically and this allows to keep the data in the organisation kept in order and organised, this is a form of communication as it allows the next person to know who has previously used the system and they can also then understand where to store their data. Another advantage of the system is it can tell employees in the laboratory of any samples that are going to come into the laboratory this gives notice to all employees to organise and store or use any samples that is being transported to the laboratory. It can also lead to lack of leadership, as no one in the workplace would have an authority or control on what each person is doing. It can also create a lot of misunderstanding because in the workplace employees need to be told their duties and roles in the workplace and if communication is not used it can lead to delays in work and also cause complacency amongst employees as they didn’t receive any information from the management system therefore slacking in their roles.
