Wisconsin’s First Congressional District Representative, Paul Ryan, is also the current Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. He is serving his tenth year in the House at forty-seven years old. He resides in his home state of Wisconsin where he graduated from Joseph A. Craig High School. Ryan attended Miami University where he earned his degree in economics and political science. Following college, he moved to Washington D.C. to work for the Hill and to aide Senator Bob Kasten. He later ran for the House in 1998, becoming a member at the age of 28. In 2012, Paul Ryan ran as the Republican vice presidential candidate and lost the election. Afterwards, in 2015, he became Speaker of the House and is currently serving his third year and second term in this position. The House Majority Whip and representative for the First Congressional District of Louisiana is Steve Scalise. He is currently fifty-two years old. McCarthy grew up in Bakersfield, California and attended college at California State University Bakersfield. While at CSUB, he obtained both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. In 1995, he served as Chairman of the California Young Republicans. He later became the Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation in 1999. After also working with Bill Thomas and the Kern Community College District, he became a member of the California State Assembly in 2002. In 2005 and 2006, he served as minority leader of that group. In 2006, he was also elected a member of the House of Representatives. He served as Chief Deputy Whip for two years and House Majority Whip for three years.
