The World’s largest independently-owned design firm, Pentagram, is recognized world-wide for their work in many disciplines of design including print, interactive and motion. Consisting of 19 partners, the firm dominates across the board by creating brand identities, exhibitions, graphics, packaging, and websites. The studio is known for their eye-catching work and unique structure that frequently allows the creative designers to collaborate. Pentagram office space is shared and each partner at the firm is an equal when it comes to structure. However, each partner is in charge of their own staffing and clients, like an independent business. Paula Scher, the first female partner of Pentagram, is an American graphic designer who has created iconic compositions that have shaped the industry for the past four decades. She began her professional career as a layout artist and worked her way up to designing album covers at CBS Records in New York, which landed her four Grammy nominations in total. Russian Constructivism and Art Deco Movements were major influences on her work as she expanded into the world of typography. The compositions she created were new, exciting and featured combinations of design elements such as unconventional juxtaposition of text that still provided structure and cohesiveness throughout the piece. With the constant growth throughout the industry, a designer’s style almost never remains relevant for an extended time period without reinvention.
