I know that Charlie really tries because he comes to my class every day ready and willing to learn. A family nurse practitioner (FNP) is a member of the health care team who provides quality and cost-effective care to patients across the lifespan, from newborn to old age. They provide care in various healthcare settings such as outpatient clinics, hospitals, community health centers and public health departments. They focus on disease prevention, health and wellness promotion. How does one become an effective Family Nurse Practitioner?
Nurse Practitioner are registered Nurses who serve as primary and specialty health care providers under a physician. Much like a geriatrician, Gerontological Nurse Practitioners work with elderly patients, diagnosing illness, conducting exams, and prescribing medication. (“Geriatric Nurse…”). These type of nurses work at nursing homes, with home healthcare services and in hospice facilities, or run your own private practice. A geriatric nurse work with finding illnesses and diseases, prescribing medication and therapy, routine check-ups and screenings, etc…etc.

My capstone project is about the need for nurses to learn about cultural diversity, cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity. This has been a fascinating project to explore and I am learning about so many cultural beliefs. When a patient's cultural practice is understood competent patient care is rendered and health care disparities are eliminated. For example, in some cultures many people believe that illness and evil can be prevented by following strict religious codes, morals and practices.

Have you ever pondered about what career you wanted to achieve as you became older? As a child, I always pondered on what I wanted to become when I became older and in sixth grade I was determined to become a Pediatric Nurse. Along the way of deciding what I should become I had no ideas such as becoming a lawyer, neonatal nurse or an actress. I soon realized that a few of my future dreams were unrealistic or did not interest me as much now as they did when I was younger. Pediatric nurses involves them in interacting with patients that vary in illnesses and age, requires them to have strong communication and numerous years of education and training.
Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.
A lifetime goal is one that people work hard for and it is what keeps them motivated to succeed in life. For me that motivation is to become a nurse, it is my main objective and what I look forward to. I decided on this career at the end of my sophomore year in high school. Therefore, I knew that for the last two years I needed to take courses that would help me reach my dream. First, I enrolled in a AP Psychology class because I know that a nurse has to comprehend what the patient is going through in order to service them in a good way.
On a dark early school morning I wake up to feel a bump on my neck. I think to myself “Is this cancer?” I have this minor issue that I always self diagnose myself. One little faintly bump on my neck and I will be researching what it could possibly be for hours on end.
This semester has been a great learning experience for me. This knowledge has help ground my philosophical views on educating young children. My involvement and the commitment has made me a successful student within this class. Through my participation I have learned many things that will help my journey into a teaching position and help guide me in the future classes. Throughout this semester I have tried to give 100% effort in this class.
Pediatricians are like unicorns in some communities-- legendary beings highly prized and sought after. If a woman finds one that is worthwhile, she may go to great lengths to preserve and protect the relationship. She may fear letting the wrong people know the doctor's name or office address. What if they screw it up for her somehow? Like what if she gives a friend the doc's number, and then the doctor hates them.
I have chosen public health as my major because it is a dynamic field. I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. It is with great passion that I am dedicated and willing to contribute my service or skills to help someone in need. My philosophy of health education is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities, populations, and societies. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public health.
During these past weeks at the Archbold ER, I had the opportunity to put into practice many of the content learned in class. This included but was not limited to the proper placement of a Foley catheter using sterile techniques, insertion of an NG tube, and assessment of patients. Even though I attempted to complete some of my initial goals for this internship, I noticed that I couldn’t complete a few of them due to lack of time and lack of experience in the field. Therefore, some of my goals that I’ll need to address during the following three weeks include improve my assessment skills, have better communication with my patients, and improve my questioning to get a better understanding of the cause that brought them in.
