A little over two years ago, I started working as a Community Support Individual for Pathways Transition Programs LLC. My primary responsibility is to teach children various coping skills to manage their behavior, I have determined that I want to be able to address the emotions behind the behaviors. My desire is to be able to help the children I work with come to terms with their past histories so they can move on in their lives towards adoption and other positive outcomes. Sometimes, the children are still going through issues such as, on-going traumas, the lost of a parent due to death or incarceration, etc and I would like to develop the skill set to be able to address these issues. I see pursuing my degree through Argosy University as being the next step to take in order to develop a competency in counseling.

I became a school counselor simply because I wanted to live a life of meaning and be a force for good in the world. Throughout life, having real and honest conversations that support growth, positive change, and owning responsibility are critical to self-actualization. I want to empower my students to give their best effort in all areas of life, not just their education. I believe that simple encouragement in this type of environment is the key to positive change, and I wanted to dedicate my professional life to reflect that belief. I whole-heartly believe in the holistic approached to a balanced and fulfilling life and being a school counselor is a unique career that fulfills this value.
After completing my B.S in Community Human Services at Empire State College, I felt extremely fulfilled in my accomplishment. I felt like I did accomplish my ultimate goal which was becoming qualified to work with Juveniles in the system to help make a difference in their lives. I thought I could have been a unique asset to the system where I can be of assistance in problem solving alongside my affiliates and bosses working together in unison to accomplish the same goal, which is to be effective administrators to foster growth and productivity in the lives of the youths. I am writing in support of Stephanie McGuire-Wise for the ACES Supervision Award. Mrs. McGuire-Wise is my clinical supervisor at The University of Toledo’s Counseling Center. She is an excellent clinical supervisor and a kind, generous person who is devoted to her clients and supervisees. In supervision, Mrs. McGuire-Wise always provides useful feedback regarding my counseling skills, challenges me to accurately perceive the thoughts, feelings, and goals of my clients and myself; and is open to my input and feedback about the counseling sessions. She is very collaborative during the supervision process and this helps me to identify themes and patterns for my clients, create and implement appropriate goals for my clients, and apply interventions and techniques to help my client achieve their goals.
Peer-to-Peer Mentorship for Academic Success in an LPN Program Problem Identification Beginning a nursing program can be an exceptionally stressful and anxiety producing experience. This is especially true in an accelerated, twelve month, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program. While the intention of nursing education is to prepare students to engage in the role of a professional nurse, the process of its completion is an arduous task. Students are often overwhelmed by the rigorous and fast-paced workload of the nursing curricula, as well as the day-to-day challenges of being a college student.
Section 1: Professional Development Plan For most of my life I have been motivated to help people so when I made the decision to continue my education at Walden University, I knew that I was ready for the journey. I am currently seeking a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I am expected to graduate in the winter of 2025. This paper was written on June 30th, 2023, with the intent of further understanding my motivations for seeking this degree as well as visualizing the type of counselor I want to be in the future. My educational goal to pursue a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Trauma and Crisis Counseling is a result of my personal life experiences and my admiration for those who work in this field, dedicated to helping those who may feel dragged down by toxic cycles and heavy memories, like myself once did, to create a life filled with meaning. I can vividly remember the advice given to me by my high school counselor. I was broken down, whispering to myself that I was not college bound. It was my counselor who made me realize that persistence was a key factor to continuing my education. The wisdom that was shared to me that day was instilled into my mind and was endorsed in my heart. I want to be the person that gives a glimpse of hope to students that need an extra push through education, just like it was given to me.
The Student Counseling Center at the University of South Dakota strives to help make the most of the college students’ years. Doctor of Social Work Program Application Personal Statement Ashley Newberry LCSW, LISW As I child, I was introduced to the human service field in a unique way. For as long as I can remember, my mother has had a human service profession and provided me with daily examples of how to help others. One of my earliest memories is riding out a hurricane while we stayed in the adult group home where my mother worked, assisting with safety measures for residents and providing comfort to her community. My mother worked in multiple residential programs throughout my life, specializing her work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
Why do you want to be a Peer Counselor? I’ve grown up as an only child until I was at the age of nine. Through the years of being the center of attention, my parents and grandparents “babied” me. I was given constant aid as they made sure I didn’t come in contact with any harm. Therefore, I never learned to do things on my own, especially important events like obstacles and challenges.
