Messacar and Oreopoulous (2013) also suggested that mentoring programs for low-income or at-risk students might help to provide positive role models for students, such as administrators or educators. If students know that there is someone who has high expectations for them, they are more likely to be engaged and have lower rates of absenteeism and tardiness as well as increased rates of graduation. If James City public schools were able to create and follow through with some form of mentoring program for those students in need, perhaps they, too, would see their graduation rates

As a first generation college student, I didn’t have mentors to help guide me. However, I did participate in mentorship program where I mentor a younger elementary student which was really inspiring for me. By helping students develop their dreams and aspirations I began to realize what I strive for which was going to UC Davis and doing what I love to

Morenci seeks to engage young people in a high level of structured, volunteer community service projects. We believe that positive youth engagement empowers teens with the tools and skills necessary to avoid risky behaviors and to develop into healthy, thriving adults. One way I would like to improve my community through Kids at Hope is by mirroring the Kids at Hope Mission Statement. I would love to help create an atmosphere where our youth and the rest of our community inspire, empower, and transform our schools, and have our organizations create a culture where all children experience success.
Explanation of Evidence I am part of YouthForce a program within the Boys and Girls Club for teens who want work experience as well as opportunities to learn and strengthen skills such as personal management and teamwork. We have YouthForce University once a month and this is when we all come together to participate cooperatively and productively in work teams to identify and solve problems. One example of this would be when we go together to be part of the reviewing committee to change/update the Boys and Girls Club of Portland mission statement. As a team we had to work together to find outdated words in the mission statement or phrases that we would like to be reworded.

Alex Brannigan Mr. Myers English 3R 23 May 2023 Title HOOK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Coming of age is simply growing up, it is an experience that one will go through to gain recognition and maturity while leaving their childhood behind them and entering young adulthood. The two components that show hardship and coming of age are loss and identity and can be shown by two characters. The component of loss is exemplified by author Jason Reynolds in the book Long Way Down when the main character William experienced the loss of his brother and struggles with grief. Meanwhile, the component of identity is represented by author Hernandez Tellez in the short story “Lather and Nothing Else” when the barber faces a hard decision.
In addition, I believe the purpose is designed to generate a strong sisterhood of women that can depend on each other and vitalize each other’s success. Similarly, overcoming personal challenges fueled my desire to help other individuals who may not be able to see the light in their own situations. Currently, I am a mentor for the Opportunity Scholars Program and the Multicultural Assistance Peer Program. Both programs allow me to develop and implement action plans that have an abundance of tools and resources for students who may come from low-income backgrounds or may be first-generation college students, just as I was. Mentorship provides the grounds to help these individuals in various aspects of their lives.
First and foremost, the nursing student is one of the key stakeholders in relation to this project. Without the public becoming interested in nursing and enrolling in the program, there would be no nursing school or need for peer mentoring. It is the student that may reap the most appreciable benefits from a peer-to-peer mentoring program, once choosing to become a nurse. As Colvin & Ashman (2010) point out, peers have a much greater influence on each other than most would think, and it is pivotal to capture this relationship in an effort to increase academic success rates. The success of a peer-to-peer mentorship program ultimately falls in the hands of each student.
