Institutional mission statements are public declarations of the campuses purpose, why it is important, and its core vision of excellence. Several professionals in higher education use their area of expertise to help ensure that the institution mission, as well as their own specialized department mission, is actualized. Asking students and faculty if they feel the mission statement is being portrayed accurately, will help foster the integrity and success of the institution, its departments, and its students. Consequently, I conducted interviews with two individuals who are Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) students and participants of CalWORKs, and a counselor from the CalWORKs department. Several similarities of opinion between the interviewees were apparent in the interview.
Why is it important for colleges to have a mission statement? It is important for college universities to have mission statements because it indicates what the college academic policy offers students. Mission statements should provide the organization’s purpose and sense of direction while making the university look attractive within the organization to incoming students. A successful mission statement should be able to covey ethos, pathos and logos in some sort of way which will be used in principles of the mission statements. In this paper I will be evaluating, analyzing and comparing the three mission statements that I picked from University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Coastal Carolina University, and University of Florida along

Morenci seeks to engage young people in a high level of structured, volunteer community service projects. We believe that positive youth engagement empowers teens with the tools and skills necessary to avoid risky behaviors and to develop into healthy, thriving adults. One way I would like to improve my community through Kids at Hope is by mirroring the Kids at Hope Mission Statement. I would love to help create an atmosphere where our youth and the rest of our community inspire, empower, and transform our schools, and have our organizations create a culture where all children experience success.
Under the mission statement the main goal of Phoenix College is to access current areas of educational excellence. The first step in this process would be to assess all support programs and services and evaluate whether or not these programs meet the current and future requirements of Maricopa colleges. I became a school counselor simply because I wanted to live a life of meaning and be a force for good in the world. Throughout life, having real and honest conversations that support growth, positive change, and owning responsibility are critical to self-actualization. I want to empower my students to give their best effort in all areas of life, not just their education. I believe that simple encouragement in this type of environment is the key to positive change, and I wanted to dedicate my professional life to reflect that belief. I whole-heartly believe in the holistic approached to a balanced and fulfilling life and being a school counselor is a unique career that fulfills this value.
As stated earlier, I truly enjoy being able to help others. It is my belief that the want and need to help others has become one of my biggest assets. The opportunity that would be provided through this program would prepare me to give quality professional help to those who so desperately need it. The two biggest areas of growth for me would be learning new concepts and the process of application. In society today, well-rounded counselors are extremely important when it comes to believing in values, morals, and ethics now more than ever.
As stated in the first paragraph leadership, diversity, wellness, achievement, and character education are also
My educational goal to pursue a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Trauma and Crisis Counseling is a result of my personal life experiences and my admiration for those who work in this field, dedicated to helping those who may feel dragged down by toxic cycles and heavy memories, like myself once did, to create a life filled with meaning. As a Sociology major in my undergraduate career, I’ve always been interested in other people and why they operate the way that they do. It wasn’t long after earning my bachelors that I came to the belief that my past experiences and mental health journey could become my superpower to help others, and that if I wish for society to collectively feel better, then the focus on
Leaving Blog: As this year comes to a close. I reflect on my time spent working as an outreach assistant for Luther College’s Counseling Service. I have learned so much about mental health and strategies to live a healthy life. I definitely grown in many ways, however one of the biggest ways I have grown and learned how to foster a better way of taking care of my mental health has been in fostering self-care.
I aspire to attend graduate school at CIIS to get my Master’s in Integral Counseling Psychology. This will help me learn the fundamental skills and knowledge required to become a psychotherapist, while also furthering my personal and spiritual growth and development. Throughout graduate school, I hope to develop a greater understanding of any personal biases and unchallenged assumptions that need to be addressed in order to be able to truly connect and be present with future clients. I desire a holistic, transformative education that focuses on the connection between the mind, body, heart, and spirit. I believe it is critical to recognize all aspects of individuals from a whole-person perspective, and explore multiple dimensions of the human
