I have been working as a Health Care Assistant for the past five years and feel that this has given me an insight into my Adult Nursing. During my time as a HCA, I felt that there were limitations on what knowledge I had and the duties I could perform. My interest in adult Nursing grew after I witnessed a patient go into cardiac arrest. I was unable to do a great deal apart from watching the doctors and nurses rush over to assist the patient. They were amazing in their ability to react quickly and communicated effectively to ensure that the patient received excellent care.
Ultimately I hope to found a non-profit organization that offers low income families therapy among other services. I have worked with HR staffing policies and reconciliation during my time at Rockwell Collins. I am currently the lead contact on HR staffing updates for the organization's Engineering Program Management group. I update the staffing headcount for each cost center group in the department, and work with Program Managers to answer ad hoc inquiries on their weekly staffing updates. Although my experience with HR regulations is limited, I am eager to learn and hope to put my education in managerial concepts to use in this role. I have held various leadership positions during my time at Iowa State University.
I am applying for the Community Foundation scholarship. Growing up in middle Tennessee has been a blessing for me and my family because of the many opportunities that the region offers. During high school, I participated in youth orchestra programs in Murfreesboro and Nashville through the Blair School of Music. I was accepted into the Music City Girls Lead program at Lipscomb University, where I learned valuable skills in leadership and connected with inspiring women in the area. Through this program, I was referred to Rutherford Cable, a networking organization for women in the Rutherford Country and middle Tennessee area.
I completed my Bachelor and Master of Social Work program at Northern Kentucky University. I used this education to begin a clinical practice serving children and adolescents in the community. I specialized my work in trauma focused care throughout my years as a social worker. At this point in my career, I have received an independent clinical license in six states and have directed multiple types of programs. I have always had a passion towards expanding my understanding of clinical practice and evolving my own practice.
I feel the employment opportunity and requirements fits my work experience, skills, and credentials. Hence, I will make a positive contribution to the institution and the liaison position while gratifying my potential. I have been doing case management for three years partnering with individuals and groups in addressing their issues. As a social worker I am meticulous in my work and knows the importance of working both individually and in groups, in addition to meeting deadlines to help the individuals efficiently address their issues. I have completed biopsychosocial assessments, implement interventions, and partnered with individuals in completing paperwork that assist them with receiving services to address their issues.
I became interested in this field during my adolescence. It was at this time, that I began to realize what I was truly passionate about. Growing up with a mother and sister who have a disability taught me to be sensitive to the physical abilities of others. In relation to individuals with disabilities, this experience increased my cultural competence. My mother and sister used a variety of resources and services for people with disabilities.
There is no other field that both challenges and inspires me to succeed and grow professionally than the field of social work. I look to not only progress further in my studies, but utilize this in my pursuit of helping others. Through my work and volunteer experiences as well as my academic studies, I possess the necessary skills and knowledge needed to excel in the MSW program. I hold extensive experience in working with a diverse population as well as implementing culturally appropriate resources and services.
