Social work was introduced to me when I began my college career at Tidewater Community College. I want to be in a profession that allowed me to have a voice, and to become influential. My passion in life has always been to help other. I love seeing the smile on a person’s face when I make a difference in their life. I believe social work is my calling, and I am ready to start my career and change the lives of others. With my course level work, and the guidance of my professors who taught their bachelors students at a master’s level. I am more than prepared to take on VCU’s M.S.W program. Growing up in Jacksonville Fl. I lived in some of the rough parts of the city. Most of my friends fell into the life of gangs and prison. At least 5 of my close or people I knew died before the age of 16. Because I saw this as a young age, I wanted more for myself, and more for people. There were families in my neighborhood who were living off welfare, and when the food stamps and government assistance were reaching to an end, some women would have another baby just to survive and live off welfare. My academic and professional career e has taught me how to balance life, a career, and schoolwork. Even though my classes were undergraduate classes, my professors taught their classes at a master’s level. They expected everyone in the classroom to give their best, so we are more than prepared for the graduate school. I must admit it was very tough because each week they was an exam and reading on top of reading, but I am more than grateful because I felt as if my education was very special, and I was getting something that no one else was getting. I gained so much knowledge from my social work course level classes. I gained a better perspective of what social work really stood for and how we a very high demand
