Percy’s experiences align with the Hero’s Journey because of these three reasons. First, separation happens to Percy for a while. I know this because in the book it says that he has ADHD and dyslexia so that is what makes him separated from the rest of society. Then, the call to adventure happens. I know this because there is a danger that starts them on their journey and the danger is the monsters that come for them.
Have you ever had a life-changing experience? Some people in The Lightning Thief such as Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood have had life change experiences. Percy Jackson finds out he's a demigod, Annabeth Chase doesn't know why their friend would turn on, them, and Gover Underwood finds out that he has to look for the Greek god Pan Percy Jackson was a normal 12-year-old trying to live a normal life until his best friend Grover had to take him to a sacred place for only demigods Camp Half Blood place for demigods and the other Greek God's children go. Percy meets a girl named Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena.
How do I know? A. From the author's view is in first person format. The very first sentence gave how the story was told.
Though not written in first person, the author was still able to manufacture a link to the characters, preventing any kind of distatchment that can sometimes stem from a thrid person omniscient point of view. The character of Matlock, especially, left me as the reader on the edge of my seat at one moment, feeling heartbroken the next, and then laughing at one of his arrogant jokes. I was pleased with the plotline of the story, as it allowed for tension to be build, predictions to be made, and shock factors to be opened at the turn of each page. I felt as if I were absorbed wholly in the treachery, treason, and terror encompassed the fearful life of
Cather describes Percy as having a “smooth, thin face” (Cather “The Bookkeeper's Wife”). We also get a description of his personality as well. Cather writes, “his ledgers were all in their places, his desks was in order, his office coat on his peg” (Cather “The Bookkeeper’s Wife”). By Cather’s description of Percy desk, the reader is able to see that Percy likes neatness. As well, he elikes things the way he does, and that is how they will be.
Percy is also brave, smart, and courageous, but he is also strong and caring. Percy’s main objective in the story is to get out of the underworld and stop a Roman vs Greek battle. Some devices used by the author in this story are alliterations, similes, and personifications. Some similarities in these two books are that both main characters need to solve a problem, both need help from
Percy explains the loss of sovereignty in this world, and how people try to measure up to the expectations of
Percy Jackson, the main character in The Lightning Thief ,is following the path of the hero in “Hero’s journey” On Percy’s life a teacher has become his mentor. In the Lightning Thief Percy says “But Mr.Brunner expected me to be as good as everybody else, despite the fact that I have dyslexia and attention deficit disorder and I had never made above a C- in my life” In this quote, percy expresses his feelings on how he is frustrated with himself and his teacher. In hero's journey a quote shows about mentors, “Heroes are almost started on their journey by a character who has mastered the laws of the outside world and come back to bestow this wisdom upon them.” That is how The Lightning Thief is compared to hero's journey.
For instance, when the character Tim talks about the man he killed, he talks about it in a limited third person point of view, as if he is trying to distance himself from what he did. The author also uses first person point of view, which allows the reader to enter the mind of the main character, Tim, and experience the action as it unfolds. However, the first person viewpoint gives the reader a biased view of the action, because the reader is only able to experience Tim's personal view of the war
Such as his mother. He is intelligent because he makes plans throughout the story to get to the right places. For example, Percy makes plans, like the buses they will take, to get them where they need to be. And since he knows all the possible routes, he also assists Grover and Annabeth along the way. For example, Toward the end of the story Percy, “told Annabeth and Grover how to get back to Half-Blood Hill and let Chiron know what had happened.”
The reader is informed of Hazel’s thoughts when she had forgotten why she had tears in her eyes. Before Harrison Bergeron flashed across the t.v. screen, George was thinking about his criminal son. Therefore, the reader is clued in to the thoughts of both Hazel and George Bergeron. Third person is distinct from other points of view, because the reader can look into the minds of every character, and the story is told unbiased.
Percy was a trustworthy person and he would never purposely make enemies with somebody. Percy was an understanding person and he put trust in people. When Percy was younger he wasn't very smart when it came to trusting people because he got betrayed several times, but he later learned about trusting the right kinds of people. Percy was so kind, his friends and fellow Half Bloods would always have his back. He made lots of friends and there was always someone who would pop up when least expected and they would have Percy's back and save him.
This is a tell-tale sign of the first-person point of view, but it also explains why the novel appeals to readers. It makes readers emotionally attached to the protagonist to a greater extent, which everyone knows,
This was an honor for Percy which brought a great honor into Percy’s life. But, it also brought more danger into into Percy’s life like being attacked by many monsters including people like the kindly
My Thoughts: This book is one I’ve been waiting for since I first heard about it. When I went to ALA Annual this year I was on a mission to get this book, and let me tell you, boy am I glad I got my hands on a copy. Vengeance Road is the first Western book I have ever read. Sure, I have seen True Grit and a bunch of other movies and television shows, but I have never sat down and actually read a Western till now. And now that I have, I can’t even think of how to explain how glad I am that I did.
