As studied by Janet Siskind, the American Thanksgiving celebration is actually a very detailed ritual that contains many symbols. Similar to other rituals, the holiday reinforces certain social structures and “…reaffirms values and assumptions about cultural and social unity, about identity and history, about inclusion and exclusion” (168). The Thanksgiving ritual is centered around a return home, as people traveled from their urban homes back to their rural home to meet with their larger family. As a result, “the household became the site of ritual performance…” (175). The goal of the Thanksgiving ritual was to reaffirm the family and renew traditional ties, especially as more people had started moving into the cities around the time that the holiday became popular in the United States (176).
I have always enjoyed exploring the world, but the adventure that always sticks out the most was my cruise to the tropical paradise of Bermuda. I have cruised to the Bahamas, as well as spent countless weeks of my lifetime in the Outer Banks. The cruise to Bermuda was only my second time out of the country, leaving from Baltimore, Maryland one Friday afternoon and arriving on the shores of the tropical island on Sunday afternoon. Waking up on a Saturday in the beginning of August and being able to look out the window and seeing water for as far as you can see is a one time thing and an experience like no other. The days spent traveling the open seas, gives you the chance to live life while leaving all of your baggage back on shore.
As I laid there, head throbbing in pain after coming back for a long day of work fill will many long, stressful hours. It has been many years since I have had a nice relaxing vacation. I just want to get away from my worries and let them just disappear. So I started researched amazing places for vacation. Finally, I narrowed it to down to three.
My Trip to Florida It was a cold winter night in Upstate New York. My mom and dad were enjoying a cup of coffee, my sisters were playing video games, and I was editing a few pictures on my computer. My mom brought up the idea of a vacation. She said” We haven’t been on a vacation for a long time”.
College admission based tests have been around for centuries, they are used to measure the levels of intellectual and academic potential of students transitioning from high school to college. These test are the “make it or break it” point for students applying for intercollegiate college programs. There has been an ongoing debates as to whether college admissions based test help measure educational quality, but I personally believe that they do not, because these exams are culturally biased and discriminatory for non-English speaking students and students with disabilities. Not only that but these test do not measure the accurate educational effectiveness of students rather just an inference.
A vacation is the best when you are with your best friend and family. Myrtle Beach has all kinds of things you can do from cool activities to boardwalks and finally being in the ocean. A vacation has a lot of fun things to do and to see when your there sowe did a lot of stuff. One thing about Myrtle beach was the cool activities. First, we went to the sky wheel, it was so high up you could see everything.
Life is stressful. Saturated with work, bills, family, obligations, maintenance of property, one’s health, and life’s list of responsibilities goes on and on. Leisure is sometimes used as a generic term, but the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines leisure as, “freedom provided by the cessation of activities; especially: time free from work or duties” (Merriam-Webster). Leisure allows for recuperation and individual growth, a necessity throughout history and yet the old maxim, all things in moderation, still holds true.
Being very fortunate to travel, my wife and I decided to traveo to Hawaii. It was our first trip to that paradisaical place. The experience was fabulous from the very beginning. We flew to the island, and before the plane could land, we were amazed at beautiful blue and clarity of the sea. As we reached towards the beach we were able to see the bottom of the ocean.
The Most Memorable Vacation A memorable vacation is one that you can never forget. I never thought I would build houses for poor people. It was one of my most memorable experiences in my life. What made it even more memorable was the fact it was my first time to go to a foreign country to help other people build houses.
