I am writing to apply for the Masters of Science in Performing Arts Leadership and Management. After graduating with my Bachelor’s of Music Education in 2013, I have had the opportunity to be in leadership as the Director of Musical Theater in my current role as an educator and Director of Musical Theater. I believe that the coursework in Shenandoah Conservatory’s program will give me the necessary steps to become an impactful leader in my local performing arts community.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, where I participated in various community choirs and performance organizations before pursuing my B.S. in Music Education at Duquesne University. The Performing Arts culture in Pittsburgh was full of opportunities for me to gain more skills as both a performer and a Music Educator. Upon graduating college, life took me to a small town in Central Pennsylvania where the arts culture was just beginning to develop. I have had students from various countries and cultural backgrounds bond over their shared love of music and performance in my musical theater classroom. In my earliest teaching days, I’ve observed students use our classroom music/composition projects to tap into creativity that they weren’t aware that they held. I’ve had teenage students with personal struggles express how the music classroom offers them a place to “escape” and immerse themselves in their craft. After making such a positive impact in the local music education realm I am eager to participate in fostering arts opportunities in the local community at large. While I have participated in local arts organizations on a volunteer level, I am looking to assist in filling some of the gaps in needing trained and qualified performing arts
