The Federal Theatre Project was a New Deal plan, administered by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), during the Great Depression. The FTP came about during the height of the Great Depression, 1935, only four years before the Depression came to an end. The Great Depression has been referred to as the greatest economic disaster in the United States and lasted from 1929-1939 (history.com). During this time, nearly 13 million Americans were unemployed (history.com). The FTP was administered by the WPA in hopes to send many unemployed theatre professionals back to work.
It is because of that mindset that I am currently a full-time sophomore at TSU, majoring in Communication with a concentration in Theatre and a minor in Africana Studies. My study’s focus
Neil Gaiman is a renowned author, screenwriter, and graphic novelist who delivered a commencement speech titled "Make Good Art" at the University of the Arts in 2012. In his speech, Gaiman encourages aspiring artists to persevere in their creative pursuits despite the many obstacles they may meet. He draws on personal anecdotes and experiences to inspire his audience and uses pathos to engage them throughout the speech. A Midsummer Night’s Dream Final Project Desperate for attention from her beloved Demetrius, Helena follows him into the woods as he goes to meet Hermia, whom he loves. After the fairy king, Oberon, watches this sad, sad display, he interferes and sends his resident jester, Robin “Puck” Goodfellow to apply love potion on Demetrius so he can reciprocate the love back to Helena. However, Puck did not complete the task as intended, resulting in both Demetrius and Lysander finding Helena irresistible. Skeptical and frankly confused, Helena lashes out and gives the two a piece of her mind.
While reading there are various ways to gain a deeper understanding of the text. For example, one method a reader can apply to increase their understanding is rhetorical reading defined as “involves more than ‘agreeing’ or ‘disagreeing’” (Heasley et al. 89). Thus, requiring the reader to focus on the text and pay close attention to the rhetorical situation to comprehend how an argument is working. In detail, the rhetorical situation consists of the writer, reader, text/purpose, and context.
Writer’s Statement I decided to write about year 12, as it is currently a very imposing part of my life which will decide the future I take. I decided a poem would allow me to best express my views to the reader on such a personally important topic with the use of imagery and language techniques. The pressure of school work combined with social and sport commitments lead to a very stressful experience. I decided to write a poem which reflected some of the beliefs, attitudes and feelings expressed by a year 12 throughout the year.
Midsummer’s nights dream Midsummer’s Night’s dream, in my opinion, was a war of love. Lysander and Demetrius fell in love with Hermia, but Hermia didn't love them back and that’s when The Love War began. This Love War is chaotic! The people were under a spell, causing fights and jealousy. The women fought also, But soon everyone made up and got married.
We have won many all-state banners over the years, and just last year Seamus Foley won the Triple Threat Award and received a free trip to New York city and is on track to becoming a Broadway actor all because of his direction in theater. Theater provides so many opportunities for so many people. There are many positions you can take in theater to better yourself in your career. Theater tremendously helps with public speaking and social interactions. If the school provided more funds for the theater department we could have more opportunities to teach kids how to succeed in giving speeches and having more confidence in situations like job interviews or college presentations.
My hobbies are baking, sewing and I love music. I play the flute in band and I love playing it outside of school as well, I really enjoy the flute because I can play popular pop songs from the radio on my flute. I’m really proud of my flute skills because its the first instrument I've ever played and I practice so much. I am currently reading Dracula, but my favorite book is Gone. It is about when adults disappear into thin air and leave kids in a world with limited supply of food, mutating animals, and a boundary like a dome covering them.
I challenge myself by taking multiple honors courses to develop a deeper understanding of math, science, and foreign language. I feel that education is essential for personal growth and future success, and I am committed to maintaining academic excellence. Kansas Thespian Theatre Education Essay Ever since I was a small child, my life belonged to the stage. As far as I can remember, I have been up there putting my heart and soul into my practice. My dad grew up an actor/singer, and I inherited the passion for the arts from him. I grew up in a very musically gifted house, which so far has produced four singers.
The type of writing I produce depends on the assignments, topics and audience. The four major topics are the writing experience, expressing opinions, argument research and revision. All these themes will tell me the content and audience I need in my essay. The first theme that we’re almost done is the writing experience and the assignment was to write a short essay on my experience with writing.
Taking one of the many screen or creative writing classes the school offers would be fabulous. When browsing the catalogue, I noticed that there is a course called Literature, Theory, Gender. I think this class (or something similar) would be a great addition to my schedule, as it combines my love of words and interest in gender and social change. As for my major, theatre is very important to me.
What is acting? Acting is where one person takes in the role, behavior, attitudes, and other traits of another person or character in a script for either a film or play. With an acting major you will spend a lot of time working on your body and the way you move on stage. In most acting majors you will have six main classes that you must take to graduate. You will have to have a class for acting, voice for actors, movement, improvisation, theatre history, and maybe an actor coaching class depending on what college you go to.
