When reflecting on choosing the first H. Preston Herring Scholarship recipient, in her husband honor, Ginny Herring recalls being drawn to Eric Schwartz and his life story. Several of the nominees would’ve been perfect but just kept coming back to Eric. Eric’s life story was compelling and really touched Ginny. Eric served his country, her had goals, was a non traditional aged student, and a true appreciation for a college education, and Ginny wanted to reward the struggled he had gone through. It was important to her that the scholarship given in her husband’s honor showed Eric that students like him were valued, and that his journey had not gone unnoticed.
Jan Karski is a hero for numerous reasons; he was brave, intelligent, and lived to tell the world. 1. After watching this video I learned that the first generation college students in the late 1960s struggled so much so we could be in this excellent program so we could succeed. Nobody should ever be neglected an education like those students. We have many opportunities as the result of their actions and sacrifices because they fought so that this program could be as successful as it is. If those courageous students would have not spoken up and fight for their rights I would have not been here right now.

As I was completing my work in Kumon,a math and reading educational center that helps children with standardized testing; all I could think about was what I wanted to get from the prize drawers. Kumon is one large gray room with seven or eight long tables. The owners of Kumon are an Asian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Chang. When I completed my work and hastily checked it over I rushed to turn it into Mr. Chang. He quickly and happily reviewed it, I got a hundred.

It was Auschwitz, 1944. Ten-year-old Eva Kor and her twin sister, Miriam, entered the deathly gates where they, among 3,000 other twins, were tormented and experimented on. Josef Mengele, an SS physician, was the man most responsible for these experiments and deaths. He was referred to as 'The Angel of Death' because of his charming and angelic features. Although I am only in high school, I feel as though I have had a vast amount of opportunities that many other students my age have not been able to experience. Over the course of my high school career, I have recieved multiple superior awards for my science fair projects, as well as two ACE awards, which are two prime examples of how I have embodied the scholarship ideal for National Honor Society. Not only have I embodied the ideal of scholarship, but I have demonstrated the ideal of service through my involvement with Student Ambassadors. In addition, I dispkay the ideal of character when I decide to do the right thing, even during a tough situation.

As a freshman, Kobi took on the challenge of high school in the way a small child takes on a chocolate bar, very enthusiastically. “I was really really excited to get to know everybody,” Kobi said with a smile. Kobi came to the Casco Bay community knowing only one other person. To some people this may have been daunting, but to a cheerful, buoyant freshman, it drove Kobi’s persistence to become friends with everyone. During Freshman Quest, Kobi was so focused on socializing with his peers that he could not focus on bonding and making connections with his crew.
Acknowledging the high vigor of the program, there are many experiences that combine to make me qualified to take part in it. I have made an extensive effort throughout my entire high school career thus far to challenge

This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
