The knee injuries I got but never wanted Imagine you’re back in the 7th grade. It 's spring sports season and you 're finally able to be on the school 's softball team. There are no tryouts, so you make the 7th-grade team. You 've played softball since you were in the 3rd grade and tee-ball prior to that. You play catcher, third base, and really want to be a pitcher too. Then one day in the middle of the season at practice your right knee starts to feel funny. Next thing you know you’re running to catch a pop fly and your knee gives out. You tell the coach and worry about being able to play anymore while icing your knee. Well, all of this and much more happened to me in my middle and high school softball career. Let’s start at the very beginning. I was an active semi-overweight child who enjoyed many sports. This made me want to play softball, so I could be just like them. I wanted to play third base and pitcher because my mom played third base and my dad was the pitcher on their team. Once I started playing in a summer league I mainly played third base and sometimes shortstop, but I still really wanted to pitch. I was playing fast pitch, so it was a different style of a pitch than my dad did on his team. After about a year my pitching dreams came true and pitched a couple of innings in a game. After that happened I realized that I didn’t want to just play third base and pitcher in order to play more in games. My coach had asked me if I wanted to learn how to be a catcher because my team only had one and she wasn’t going to be able to play next year due to her age. I agreed to try it and I instantly liked it because I felt in charge and in control of the ball. I finished playing summer softball as the main catcher for every
