The second Tuesday in April, for the first time since last October, Mr. Perkins, the custodian opens the windows and a warm spring breeze drifts into the faculty conference room. Where, on this particular morning, the department heads of the Canyon School for Exceptional Gifted Children had gathered to discuss an issue concerning the petite eight-year-old student, Arabella Clayburn. As always Sally Delk, Director of the Math Department leans back in her chair nonchalantly, as she addresses her colleagues, “Never have I encountered a student as brilliant as Arabella.
