Personal Narrative Essay: Basketballman's Life

Generally speaking, it is every freshman’s dream to play varsity. In my case, however, it is quite the opposite. I started playing basketball in the seventh grade. For me at the time it was just a way for me to pass the time and stay in shape for track. I ended up playing into my eighth and freshman year of high school. Its was a lot of fun and I was having a good time. As soon as the summer going into high school hit, things made a complete one eighty. I went to work under the varsity coach. He was a tough man to work under. He lived, ate, breathed basketball. For him in a way basketball was life. He had a temper and was not afraid to show it. I was kind of excited because for one I never broke a bone before this and I always wondered what It was like. But I was sad because it meant that there went the rest of my summer with basketball and some of the upcoming season in cross country. All in all my ankle healed just fine and I was ready to go for not only cross country but the upcoming basketball season as well. Although the summer was hard, it was nothing compared to the actual season. You see, the summer was for learn how to play. In a way it was for easing our way into the system. That way it was not all in your face when the actual season came around, but it was still a total shock. Right before the season started, most of the upper classmen quit. That left the freshman to step up and take their place. Nww depending on the person that could be a good thing or a bad thing. For me it was not a good thing at all. Now, do not get me wrong I did learn a lot in the previous summer. But I felt in no way ready to take on varsity. Because we were playing for varsity there were many strict rules. For example, we had to be fifteen minutes early to practice. Anything over that we would have to run suicides. Another rule that we had to follow was we had to eat together during lunch.
