Student Athletes Should Go To College Persuasive Essay

In today’s world, it is hard to ignore the amount of tremendous athletes that give us so much entertainment and hope. Many young children grow up hoping to play the same game as these talented people they’ve watched since they were young. One of the greatest sports to come to the surface is basketball, which holds many famous and inspiring people. Michael Jordan is thought to be one of the most talented basketball players of all time. His NBA debut was on October 26, 1984 to the Chicago Bulls in the first round. Jordan was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2009. A more recent star in the NBA is Stephen “Steph” Curry, who went to college at Davidson University, and was drafted into the NBA in 2009, currently playing for the Golden State Warriors (LLC.). But these basketball legends aren’t always male.

Basketball is not only played in the United States, but also in Canada, China, and many European countries. Professional basketball players can make $5.15 million dollars, which is why more recently there have been problems regarding student eligibility. The rules of the NBA do not allow a high school student to be drafted directly into the NBA, and that they must attend a year of college first. However, this has caused many problems because it forces student athletes to cheat the system. Many young athletes will attend their one year of school, drop out and become open to draft. They never complete their education, and this is causing colleges to question the so called “one and done”. They believe that making freshman ineligible to play would help prevent this problem of drafting players’ right out of high school. Professionals say that making freshman ineligible for playing their freshman year would help them socially, educationally, and allow them to have a normal college life. Some even believe this might convince more athletes to stay in school instead of jumping up to the pros so quickly
