I was employed at Federal Mogul in the Accounting Department. My job duties were processing billings, invoices, processing claims requested by clients. It was also my responsibility to prepare and reconcile monthly trial balances, prepare journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and bank reconciliations. Resolved NSF checks issues and submit for collection when necessary. Additionally, I prepared internal and external reports for management.
In the book Rereading America, a passage “Looking for Work” by Gary Soto narrates his life as a young Mexican- American boy. As a nine-year old boy, he compared his life with modern white families that he watches on his television. Throughout the passage, Gary gives examples of how his life is different, compared to the modern family and his Armenian-French neighbor. He mentions how money and luxuries play a big role in society. Gary and his neighbor are obviously in two different social classes.

If I had to choose one activity to pursue, I would go with activity number one: assistant at Drake Dental. I would choose this one primary because it involves helping others. “We rise by lifting others” is a quote that resonates with me as I believe strongly in its message. My job, while it may be insignificant compared to others around the office, involves helping others by making sure everything runs smoothly. Whether it be scheduling an appointment, or simply greeting the patient as they walk in, my job is to ensure that the patient feels satisfied with their dental experience.
Hi, i’m Jeffrey, a Mexican Jew who was blessed with the awesome job of being a security guard for El Shapo inc. My job is to help with the transporting and selling of “candy canes,” and that’s where my story begins. This morning was the same as any other morning; wake up early, brush my teeth with vodka and crushed lifesavers, eat a healthy bowl of Fruit Loops and expired soy milk. At least, it would’ve been a normal day but my way to the “candy” lab I received a text from my boss, Phil.
I was very loved and now I am very missed by the school and its educators. First, I taught in Bullhead, South Dakota and then in Little Eagle, South Dakota. In the area of Little Eagle and all of America Indian teachers were desperately needed, so I took matters into my own hands. I decided I would open a fund raiser up to get money for teacher education and for schools. When my son was 10 he had no teachers.
The BMO Harris Scholarship program has assisted me with ways to pay for college and networking with different mentors to take advantage of different opportunities to assist me with my career choice. Charles Organ is my career director at the Boys & Girls Club. Charles Organ impacted my career by supporting me with my career goals through high school on what pathway I wanted to pursue in and offering helpful resources such as professional development workshops to advance my skills on preparing for college. Another impact that the Boys and Girls Club assisted with my career goal was taking advantage of debt free tuition such as attending Milwaukee Area Technical College to receive my first Associate Degree in Business and Management. Boys and Girls Club Greater of Milwaukee impacted my life by advancing my skills and talent to make a commitment to serve youth outside of the Boys and Girls Clubs such as joining organizations such Independence First, Makala Cares and City Year of Milwaukee.
I have high expectations for my life, and plan on making a name out of myself, which requires my financial knowledge to be greater than many. My parents have been a crucial aspect in my life because even though they struggled in the beginning, they turned their mountain of debt and turned it into a beautiful life lesson, and they have taught me a great deal. Budgeting, managing money, and not relying on plastic is, in my opinion, key components in a financially stable environment. Difficulties tend to arise more often than we’d like, but knowing how to deal with this responsibility is a crutial.
My journey began when The Deron School hired me as a paraprofessional. I learned so much about myself in a classroom setting of diverse learners. First, my strong qualities, such as patience, flexibility to change, and positivity, were simply demonstrated for this position. I have witnessed staff members resign due to stress from unpredictable circumstances. However, I can simply understand the rough days which strengthens my performance to find a solution.
The two traits that have consistently separated me from most people my age is my work ethic and my focus. My work ethic mainly shows up in sports, and business as those were more of a focus for me than school. Growing up I had a love for basketball, I was not the tallest, strongest, or most athletic kid on the court ever. But I had more heart, and desire than anyone on that court. It showed in my high school career.
I struggled with my education since the age of nine. I lived in an abusive home for three years while changing schools constantly and later being transferred into the foster care system until my mother gained full custody of my siblings and I. Thanks to my counselors, I was able to focus my mind on my education. They always believed in me and guided to take the appropriate steps through my education and through my personal relationships. I have jumped obstacles and I will continue to thrive for success. By helping students with their academic goals, I will be able to provide students the opportunities that were given to me by different counselors.
This job really taught me about the importance of children having a routine to follow as well as the impact teachers can have on a child’s life. After my first year in college, I realized that I wanted to gain more experience with children of all ages. Shortly after,
Through years of following in my dad's shadows, and following directly in his footsteps, he led me right into the welding family. My dad welded his whole life and now works at a small shop making 32 dollars and hour, which inspired me to become a welder and follow my dreams of supporting a family and living a healthy life without worrying about payments. As I became older I began to realize the decision I had to make going into my junior year. While making a big decision in my life it was pretty easy considering the trips our school took to the CTC. Mr. Kearns talked to me for a little while by myself and he inspired me on the amount of money and the amount of jobs that are available in the welding field.
My internship was with the Boys and Girls Club LeBron James Clubhouse. I worked with students from the Akron area that were in less than ideal home situations and I saw a huge need for a positive role model in their life that was dedicated to working towards helping them succeed and advocating for them and their needs. It was after my experiences at the Boys and Girls Club that I decided my next step would be to follow in my mother’s footsteps and become a school
