My first language is English but I also understand haitian Creole. I would say I am intermediate in Haitian Creole. I also think some words in Spanish are familiar to me because in Creole there are some Spanish words ( as well as some French). I want to be able to hold a basic conversation in Spanish or at least understand it. Eventually, i would love to be fluent or at least intermediate in the language to be able to communicate well with my future Spanish-speaking ELL students when I become a teacher.
Hi Journey Group! If you know me at all, you absolutely know that I crave new experiences and love to share them. This year, I have begun new adventures… from beginning a new job, to becoming the first African-American female Publisher in Charlotte, to fulfilling a life-long dream of writing and publishing a book. We all have connected at different points in my life, and by far, this is the most exciting time for me that I’ve had in a very long time.
LA Spirit! While i have so many things i’m passionate about the thing that comes to me the most is my city. Los Angeles has been so good to me in the concept of sports. As a young kid growing up in South Central, all i would think about was what LA team was being broadcasted live. This was around 2005 so you could imagine what was around at the time.

This Life-long Learner Report assignment has really helped with my Spanish speaking. One of the things I said I would do was speak to my mom in Spanish whenever I can, and this has helped me a lot. For example, when I spoke to my mom, she would give me instant feedback when I would pronounce a word wrong. She would also tell me new words that I didn 't know beforehand. It 's also been fun to be able to understand the Spanish TV shows and movies, because before I started this class I didn 't understand much of it (I would have to constantly ask my mom questions on what they talking about).
Entering my junior year of high school, I felt compelled to start a Bible study at my school. I enlisted some of my friends, and we began building the foundation of, Alive. We were aware that we would face animosity from peers, but we wouldn’t let it stop us. Unfortunately, administration was worried that we would spark an uprising of groups who wanting the opposite of what we were about. The red tape of separation of church and state was brought to our attention, even though we were not doing anything wrong.
I’m a first generation american on my father's side and second generation on my mothers. In large part, who I am today, is a direct reflection of them immigrating to this country. I learned hard work, determination, and commitment through stories they shared with me about the lives they built when they arrived to America. I’m proud of my roots and the legacy that my parents and grandparents have instilled in me and much of who I am today is a reflection of their own hard work.

I am unique in many ways from talents to challenges and lifelong goals, and all of these will shape me into the person I will become. I have had a lifelong goal of becoming a professional golfer and I am reassured this is what I want to spend my life attempting to achieve. I have always possessed a strong passion for golf, which has lead me to try to make it my profession. When I was five, I received my first set of golf clubs for Christmas and eventually took my first lessons ever since then I have strived to be just like the professionals.

It has been proven that it is much easier to learn a language when you are younger, but practice makes perfect. In order to do well in the class, I had to study frequently to help understand and remember words, which is normal. I think learning Spanish helped me understand the culture. In class, we learned about holidays they celebrated, such as, Cinco De Mayo and the Day of the Dead. This helped me understand what they valued.
