It was the last inning in our all-star game, and we were losing 10 to 8. Our team had 2 outs and we couldn’t get the third. Our pitcher was doing bad, throwing all balls, while all of us in the field were tired, ready to fall asleep at any moment. There goes another walk. They score again.
2. Critically evaluate the effectiveness of narrative based intervention on various psychiatric disorders Narrative therapy is a collaborative and non-pathologizing approach to counselling and community work which centres people as the experts of their own lives. A narrative approach views problems as separate from people and assumes people as having many skills, abilities, values, commitments, beliefs and competencies that will assist them to change their relationship with the problems influencing their lives. It is a way of working that considers the broader context of people's lives particularly in the various dimensions of diversity including class, race, gender, sexual orientation and ability.
After applying the miracle question “ in the middle of the night, a miracle happens and the problem that brought you in to see me today is solved! So, when you wake up tomorrow morning, what might be the small change that will make say to yourself, “ Wow, something must have happened- the problem is gone!” From solution focus therapy (SFT), I found that I did well in not wanting to be the expert. I felt relieved to let the other person take themselves to finding a solution rather than seeking an answer. I recognize that I must continue to work on assigning homework.
Most people belong to a family. Whether they like the people in their family, or not, really depends on the individual. Let it be known that “…all families can be looked at as dysfunctional; they just vary in terms of the degree and severity of dysfunction” (Shelley). Unfortunately, I can apply several dysfunctional family concepts to my most intimate, personal relationship-my marriage. Thus, the following is a compilation of dysfunctional family perceptions that I can apply to my own life.
Hi, Becky. Kathy asked me to write a list of all the kids with individual therapy in order for you to call them to let them know that Marietta is starting seeing kids a week after everybody else. The list (with telephone numbers) is on Marietta’s desk. Sorry, I forgot to give it to you.

When I was thirteen years old, I found out that my dad had PTSD. Me being a little girl I did not understand what PTSD was. My dad has been in the Army for twenty-two years and has seen a lot of traumatic things which has caused him to have PTSD. PTSD is a Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after you have gone through an extreme emotional trauma that involved the threat of injury or death.
In A Sociology of Mental Illness by M. Tausig, discusses the impacts of Trauma on mental illness. Trauma is an extreme stressor that occurs after experiencing a major life event. Mental health issues can be influenced by a person’s response to trauma, such as guilt, anxiety, nightmares, flashbacks depression etc. Parental separation can cause trauma to children in unexpected ways and impact their mental health. Through reading this chapter, I determined that from personal experience of my parents’ divorce, I could have been suffering from a minor form of childhood trauma.
The butterfly effect is a well-known concept that is known to many as little to small changes that can make a unique difference to the scenario, and will have greater effects to it. In the article, Chaos by Gleick James, Lorenz had some many interesting examples of the butterfly effect taking action, how certain equations can make that small impact to make the biggest difference in the world. He called the device his Royal McBee. In Lorenz’s system of equations, his small errors proved to be heavily catastrophic. Back in my teenage years, I use to play basketball and in the last few seconds I made the buzzer shot which made a small impact in points but major difference in the winning score.
In this assignment I will be discussing two forms of therapies, family therapy as well as narrative therapy. The assignment will begin with an overview of both family therapy and narrative therapy. I will discuss the key concepts, techniques, therapeutic goals as well as client-therapist relationship. I will then proceed to discuss whether family therapy and narrative therapy are able to be applied in a multicultural context. The assignment will then conclude with how family therapy and narrative therapy is applied in certain situations to clients and how each one will benefit the client.
Although there are advantages, there are also some disadvantages. First, Narrative Therapy is relatively new theory which means there are not much research articles that support using this therapy as a stand-alone theory. Second, there are some discrepancies when it comes to using this theory with families since family therapy might want to work on the family as unit. It might be difficult to use narrative therapy when dealing with the relationships aspects of the
Therapy process had been going well until three weeks ago, however, I think it was interrupted in some way due to a couple of reasons. First, we gathered with Kenosha, and then had a short one session and the last week did not have a change meet. Additionally, last weeks were quite busy midterm weeks, so that excessive workload negatively influenced on this process as well, at least for me. I am having difficulty in managing my school-related stress level time to time. In those times I experience severe headache, dizziness and some anxiety symptoms, and hardly focus on anything else other than my schoolwork.
To most, Post-traumatic stress disorder is a phrase synonymous with war veterans and coping victims. But to me, PTSD simply sums up my childhood. My mother immigrated to the United States when she was twelve years old. An orphan of the Cambodian genocide, she was scarred mentally and physically by years of enslavement and inconsolable abandonment. My mother’s PTSD gave way to her everyday paranoia, and being raised by her has made growing up very challenging.
Throughout this program, much of the focus has been on therapies and techniques and how they affect people on an individual level. This class pushed one to think beyond individual therapy and imagine what a future working with families and the familial impact would look like. Future counselors are forced to take a look at their own family and the specific family roles one have created for themselves and their upbringing. It becomes easy to take notice of the possible coalitions, alignments, and shifts of power that have may be created in one’s life. Even if those specific characteristics are not currently deep enough to disrupt the family unit at this time, it is important to know and recognize these boundaries and eliminate or control them before they have the ability to cause disruption within the family.
As for individual therapy sessions, the sessions are quiet and safe and secure for the client to share. Some client’s would not like to be in a group to share their problems with others. Some client would like to be in a group counseling session to hear feedback and stories from other members to learn and grow from it. Group counseling is structured in a way that it is a big group, no privacy, everything is being shared openly and it is cheap. It can be an open or closed group depending on the type of group.
