A time when I was faced with a significant challenge, but learned to overcome it was sophomore and junior year in history. History has always seem to be the class I tend to struggle in, no matter who I sit next to or how many notes I take. Sophomore as time when on to second semester I realized I wasn’t doing well; I was procrastinating with homework, not doing well on test, and stated to pay less attention in class. I got a D for the first semester and when I saw that on my report card I knew I had to change something. I realized history need to become a much higher priority.
Currently, I am participating in several activities that I believe will be conducive to my goals of becoming a valuable asset to any organization that will have me. In the past few years I have been surrounding myself with activities, academic and otherwise, that I believe to be at least in some way beneficial to my goals in future. My participation in National Honor Society, Student Government, Model Debate, History Bowl, and Tennis each reflect a different aspect of myself that I wish to forge into one cohesive individual. National Honor Society is representative of service and character, Student Government of leadership, Model Debate is for debate and compromise, History Bowl for scholarship, and finally Tennis for camaraderie and teamwork.
Through the experience of working as youth leader for freshman connection I have grown as a better leader. To help incoming freshman was incredible experience for me. I joined freshman connection to serve school and defiantly to get knowledge and team building skills out of it, so that it can help me make my college experience better. I think I have achieved all the goals that I wanted to through working as youth leader. Additionally, not only that but also to work on community service project on bullying has really allowed me to serve as teacher helper.
Also, I was able to attend a year in college back in my hometown, The Philippines, and during my time there, my goal was just to graduate and finish college. However, my goal turned into a dream that put me motivated to reach it when I experienced a life-changing event. In this particular event, my department was assigned to be one of the hosts of the program ran by my school, which is "The feeding Program.” It is an event that supports children who were struck with extreme poverty. I helped with organizing the event; there were fun games and food for everyone.
.On any given day there will be a group of students working on their associates degrees that have been there long before I started to attend Wayne County Community College. They are a little older than I am, most being around the age of 23. They spend their time playing video games while I stand mind going to class. I consider this group to be friends but I am scared this is what my future will be like if I remain at this institution.
Next year at Embry-Riddle I plan start studying Cyber Intelligence and Security. Ever since middle school I knew I had a developing interest in the field of computer science and spent most of my time building the skills to excel in my classes. One of the first projects I got to use the computer on was a video for the Oregon Trail. I decided that it would be best to design an advertisement to showcase the facts in a new and creative way. When my group turned the project in, and it was shown to the class my teacher rewrote the assignment according to what we did and used it as an example of great work when recruiting new people.
While simultaneously balancing work and school, I developed a greater sense of my abilities. I not only grew as an individual; but also gained character and knowledge. I can successfully state I have completed one year with a cumulative GPA of […]. Furthermore, I continue to participate in extra circular activities in my free time. For instance, I have held the position of assistant secretary of the business club, and have participated in the math and psychology clubs at Three Rivers Community College.
“Are you sure you have everything?” my mom asked one last time. I smiled and nodded yes for the fifth time. My mom, dad, and half-asleep little sister walked with me out of the small conference room along with other sad, but proud families. This was the last time I would see my family this summer for I was participating in the UCLA High School Summer Research Program (HSSRP).
While I knew what I wanted to do with my life, I never thought I would get as far as I have. My mentors and colleagues at UTEP have pushed me to be the best version of myself
I can contribute my hard work to the Honors College community. I think that I am hardworking and I love to work with others to help solve problems because two heads are always better than one. I would contribute my ideas to the lessons and help others when they need it. I love to be able to work with other people outside my comfort zone and be able to hear their ideas and combine ideas to come up with something that will benefit everyone in the community.

Just two years ago, if someone would have told me that I would have a 3.9 GPA in college and that I would have dreams that are close to coming true, I would have laughed straight in their face. I was never truly inspired before in life, and I thought, with all the trouble that I got into in high school, that I was just a bad person, and that bad people do not get to achieve dreams. I was confused, a mess, and I did not even know how a "troubled youth" as I was labeled, would be able to do successfully in life. As I stated before in this application, I was diagnosed with a lot within high school, but it does not start there. No, this all goes back to preschool, where I was actually kicked out of my preschool and was told that I required “psychiatric”
This semester will be my second at the University of Arizona, at 33 years old with a high school education, it is an understatement to say that it was fairly intimidating to be immersed in an academic community of fresh young minds straight out of high school. My strategy for this new chapter in my life has been to reflect on and use my past experiences for guidance and to have a clear set of goals that I continually draw upon for the motivation to keep pushing forward. The act of writing these goals down is not a new concept, in my previous career it was mandated that several times a year I would meet with a mentor and discuss and write down my personal and professional goals. I have continued this practice in my academic career.
This placement was the hardest setting I have ever had to teach in my undergraduate career. I thought my high school placement was going to be hard for me and I am really glad I was able to build up my confidence as a teacher in that placement in order to prepare me to handle this placement. The overall setting of the room is stressful. My teacher and her two assistants were struggling before I came on board and before the incident with one my students running out on Westport road, we were basically surviving the day.
To start off, what I believe makes me unique and different from other candidates is my determination and my ability to get back up after being knocked down. Many students applying to the University of California have had continued academic success. Either they are successful high school students that have never posted anything lower than a 3.0 GPA or transfer students that have cruised easily through community college. This was not the case for me. I did have some success in high school receiving awards such as honor roll, but there were also numerous times when I struggled to maintain a passing grade.
