Midwifery is all about relationships. Where ever we work we share similar relationships with others, women, their partners, and family (Guilliland, 2013, p. 6). To me, this personally reflects what was covered within our group presentation and is mirrored to what we are yet to experience on our pathways as midwives when working alongside women, their whanau and other health professionals. This essay will explore my role within the group while highlighting issues that arose throughout this experience and further reflecting on how this may influence my future communications as a student midwife. Moreover, I will also give an insight into suggestions of improvement and change.

In the same way, I am aware that each individual has their unique way of communicating also. In previous group work I would sit back and allow others to control the proceedings, but with this experience, I have learnt to be aware of my insecurities and be an active participant in all decision making. These changes I have made within myself has allowed me to become heard and gives me a sense of self-worth whilst also acknowledging that being able to communicate effectively is pertinent in the midwifery profession. If I was presented with a similar scenario in future, I would make small changes such as, working with colleagues closer to my hub; prioritising my role within the group by planning my time better; and also suggest ideas around zoom meetings, debriefs and more in face to face interactions. By including these ideas of expansion for my personal knowledge it will help me to grow more self-awareness and broaden not only my understanding but would also be beneficial to the
