Personal Narrative: My Internship At ITF LLC

Entering my internship in August 2016 I knew much about the freight company I applied to intern at ITF LLC. In fact, I had little knowledge on how freight companies accounting and management system operates. Now that I have been interning at the company for approximately three months I can gladly say that I am beginning to understand how these businesses operate day to day, and it has been very effective in helping me determine what career route I want to take. Like many freight companies ITF LLC provides both brokerage and freight services to small or large manufacturing companies. The majority of work begins with the moving freights at the client’s facility with a strategy of providing high quality service at a competitive fee.

Assisting

The owner is always very passionate in these discussions and never does the accounting staff look negatively criticized because they know it is beneficial to them. Instead, they leave the meetings with more confidence on how to go about the next assignment. This good management on the owner’s behalf is a win-win situation for all parties. There are opportunities to become proficient in all accounting practices working as a full time employee. The internship position, on the other hand, is not as attractive. I am glad I did my internship here because I learned a lot of valuable information about the accounting and management industry and what direction I want to head in. However, if you are a person interning in hopes to work on major projects this would not be the place. Due to the nature of the work and amount of hours that the real staff put in, a part time employee would not be exposed to all of the services done at ITF LLC. Since the accountant stays out working at a client’s organization for days or weeks straight, the intern will not be able to perform these same duties, and that is essentially the core portion of the job. In my case, this was not too much of an issue with me because I still worked on some valuable assignments and determined exactly what type of organization I want to work
