Recommended: Roles and responsibilities of school counselors
I wonder if the only reason that Sun-Li came to see a counselor was because her professor suggested she go. Perhaps, she felt pressure before she even went to counseling. Perhaps, the client did not agree with the course of action and thought it’d be better to not attend anymore than to have object to the counselors ways of handling things and be subjected to the counselor's response. I also wonder what Sun-Li’s previous experiences with or perceptions of counseling has
Over the last few years, there has also been a significant increase in the severity of presenting concerns for college counseling center clients (Watkins, Hunt, & Eisenberg, 2012). While primary concerns such as depression and anxiety are on the rise in counseling centers, they are coupled with a surge of complaints of more serious mental health issues (Benton, Robertson,

So to give some insight, I will explain in hopes of shedding light on my actions from last Sunday. From the start of my sophomore year of college, I've been required to find a way to pay for school myself with little to no help from my parents. I don't receive financial aid or Pell grant like some students do. So there has always been a financial burden placed upon my shoulders which I continue to carry till this day. This fall semester of my junior year I'm taking 18 credit hours of course work, in addition to my requirements as a returning resident assistant.
I did not want to talk to anybody about what I was going through, I was miserable, I hated myself. At the end of of the semester, I knew I was going to be suspended because I knew how I performed. I wanted to run away, I did not want to return to my home. I experienced a major depression
Coaching is closely related to counseling and the Center for Credentialing ind Education (CCE), is an affiliate of National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), now offers a coaching certification for counselors, for the reason that coaching is a growing field that provides an avenue for using skills and knowledge obtained in an accredited clinical mental health counseling setting. Speaking about a counseling setting, a letter from the director at Temple University John DiMino influences their employee
Next year at Embry-Riddle I plan start studying Cyber Intelligence and Security. Ever since middle school I knew I had a developing interest in the field of computer science and spent most of my time building the skills to excel in my classes. One of the first projects I got to use the computer on was a video for the Oregon Trail. I decided that it would be best to design an advertisement to showcase the facts in a new and creative way. When my group turned the project in, and it was shown to the class my teacher rewrote the assignment according to what we did and used it as an example of great work when recruiting new people.
The Life of Jim Crow My cousin, Alva from Cleveland, Ohio would come to visit us during the summer and would tell us about her bus ride experience when coming into the south. The southern border of Ohio was border with the northwest side of Kentucky. Even with both states sharing a border, Jim Crow did not live in Ohio. The bus would leave Cleveland headed south toward the state borders. When the bus arrived at the Kentucky state line just south of the Mason-Dixon line, the driver would request all passengers to get off.
Counselors may allow their own personal experiences and histories to cloud the direction of their treatment due to personal conflicts in their lives. Counselors often ignore the feelings that their clients create in them. In order for me to deal with this type of situation ethically and effectively I would first have to accept the countertransference that is at hand, and seek personal therapy. Therapy will enable me to share my countertransference concerns, and become aware when they are taking place. It is important that I acknowledge these feelings and deal with them right away before it can effect therapy with the client, by seeking personal therapy or consolidation with a colleague or professional.
I can vividly remember the advice given to me by my high school counselor. I was broken down, whispering to myself that I was not college bound. It was my counselor who made me realize that persistence was a key factor to continuing my education. The wisdom that was shared to me that day was instilled into my mind and was endorsed in my heart. I want to be the person that gives a glimpse of hope to students that need an extra push through education, just like it was given to me.
Unable to do anything more to encourage me, my teacher introduced me to the school’s counselor. Meeting frequently with the school counselor, I slowly opened up to her and found a lot of new friends due to her constant support and advice. This incident led me to think about what was happening outside my own personal bubble. Being counselled in the past
And I ended up going to traditional school because I didn’t want to leave because I enjoyed going to traditional school. But a few weeks after school started I was called to guidance to talk with my guidance counselor. And when I got there she didn’t sugar code nothing she came straight out and said I wasn’t going to graduate because I didn’t have enough credits, couldn’t pass the EOC or FCAT and I had really poor GPA. So with that being said I made the decision to go to an alternative school named Fresh Start.
I believe that clinical counseling was what I needed, but I feel it could have been beneficial and helpful to receive support and acknowledgment from the professional school counselors on staff at our school. I believe that even if you feel like you may not be prepared to help a student it is important to at least acknowledge and address a students concern. I did not feel that I had a safe place to go at school when things were difficult because no one took time to acknowledge that I was not in the best
In this semester, I have been exposed to the subject of Introduction to Guidance and Counselling which is a new field of study for me. After I have received this lesson, I can relate my experiences with what I have learned. Not only that, I also have different perspective towards after I learned this subject. The aspects that I can relate my experiences and thoughts with are the differences between advice, guidance and counselling as well as the goals of counselling.
