Upon arriving to Miami Dade College, you will never imagine all the resources offered to students to succeed during their scholastic years. I’ve been lucky enough to been advised by some of the best staff at their Interamerican campus. From their advisement office to their profoundly knowledgeable professors. As a current student of ENC1102, we were required to attend one section with a tutor at the writing center. I always thought I had sufficient knowledge of the English language and taking time out of my busy schedule to attend a section with a tutor was absurd.
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Bryan Le, a freshman that is currently attending a charter school by the name of “Downtown College Prep”. I am currently living with my parents and two younger siblings, one brother and one sister. Over my years in a public elementary school, I had seen others being happy because of one’s help and that made me feel happy inside. I then thought of ways to help others when I stumbled upon the fact that doctors help people everyday, which seemed as a great way to help many people so that they may continue to be happy in life. As I entered Downtown College Prep, I was urged by the staff to explore my options and to set a goal in life.
As a senior at Little Falls High School, I truly believe my time here has brought me various opportunities to succeed and accomplish goals for not only myself, but my school and community as well. The opportunities given to the body of students at Little Falls stays true to the school 's mission statement: To be educationally affective and academically effective. Personally, all of my high school achievements, activities and future goals have and will continue to represent my experience at Little Falls. The most important thing a school can provide to its students is a quality education. Especially within Little Falls High School the tools that faculty, and even other students ensure provide an environment to which anyone can thrive.
When I was was younger, I was a caterpillar crawling around trying to get through life, waiting to turn into the beautiful butterfly I know I could soon become. I made good decisions along with bad ones, saw the beauty in life as well as the unpleasant. I was like everyone else trying to be their own person, but now as I look at myself in the mirror I can finally see who I really am. I see myself as the beautiful butterfly I once dreamed of becoming, ready to fly down my own path. I have been in my chrysalis and I am finally out and ready to fly into my bright future.
Moving to Cleveland was one of the worst days of my life. My mom told us to pack our bags because we were moving to one of the best and most beautiful places in Ohio. I was an idiot and thought Ohio would be just like The Woodlands. I thought they would have winning teams, lots of trees, and comfy neighborhoods with parks, but it was exactly the opposite.
Through the experience of working as youth leader for freshman connection I have grown as a better leader. To help incoming freshman was incredible experience for me. I joined freshman connection to serve school and defiantly to get knowledge and team building skills out of it, so that it can help me make my college experience better. I think I have achieved all the goals that I wanted to through working as youth leader. Additionally, not only that but also to work on community service project on bullying has really allowed me to serve as teacher helper.
So over the summer I got to visit two schools, the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins university. So when I went to the University of Maryland I felt like I liked it more than John 's Hopkins. At the University of Maryland, they have the School of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social worker law and dentistry. So I visit the school medicine and also got to see their campus and their hospital. During the tour, I also got to visit the trauma center and even went up to see their helicopter.
Two years ago, I started my journey as a student in The Dual Language Honors College at Miami Dade College, little did I know that this institution would give me so many opportunities to ascend to a higher level of competitiveness and adroitness. Miami Dade College is the unwavering foundation in my development as a professional and as a person. The college has instilled in me dedication to my community, self-confidence. Furthermore, the college and its faculty have always been the driving force that pushes me to set competitive goals and believe in the power of my dreams.
The guys from Ohio are quite the group. They come up once a year and stay with my Uncle Buzz. He isn’t my real Uncle but is close enough to be one, so I just call him that. John is one of the four guys that come. He is the kind of guy where he needs to be proven wrong before he admits he is.
We were rushing out of the room as fast as we could; the alarm was set to go off in just two minutes. The light switch was on the opposite side of the door so we had to run through the darkened room before it turned eleven. We finally made it out of the building, with two minutes to spare. It was that night that I learned how important it was to honor a commitment. Earlier that week, my mom, the director of the food pantry, order 1600 pounds of food.
In the middle of the night I began hearing loud footsteps. That awoke me from my deep slumber. I began to get up as I did I began hearing glass shatter. The glass was most likely from my mom's jewelry cabinet. At that moment I realized my house was being robbed.
Growing up in Ohio, I was always fond of the great outdoors. My love for the outdoors carried me to apply for a seasonal job in Yellowstone National Park over the summer after I completed high school in the year 2000. Little did I know that having a seasonal job in housekeeping would teach me some of the most valuable lessons in life. I had no idea that my time would be cut short, due to one of the most devastating losses that I could experience. Seventeen years later, my family upbringing, strong work ethic, love for the outdoors, and love for my family, have formed me into who I am today.
If I had a ticket that would take me anywhere, I would use it to go to Cleveland, Ohio. I would go to Cleveland to visit my family there that I haven’t seen in a long time. I also want to go to Cleveland because it be great to visit family as well as fulfill a dream of mine, which is going to the largest amusement park in the world, Cedar Point, located in Ohio. This has been a dream of mine since I rode my first roller coaster and felt the adrenaline coursing through me and the wind in my face. As soon as I get there I plan on going straight to my grandma’s house.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.
It is not only my intellectual curiosity, but also my passion towards giving back to the community, that will lead me to success. As a UD honors student, I plan on joining organizations and performing volunteer work that I have done in high school. It will allow me to consolidate my musical and creative passions, while participating in new extracurricular activities pertaining to sports and community service. I believe that with the University of Delaware’s many opportunities, I can have the potential to become a strong leader and active member of the UD Honors community. The lessons that I have learned from working with these children will forever remain a part of me, as I hope to grow to be someone who will one day be able to change society, and will remind me to always dare to
