I feel excited when I participate in mock trials no matter how anxious I am. I habitually stay updated on politics and learn new parts of our legal system. Like the girl I once was I keep up with popular case trials. For example, another local, popular case, the Zimmerman trial. I was devastated with every new discovery but I was glad to have watched the case.
This accomplishment reflects a collaborative effort that
I have been doing some thinking about our conversation a few days ago and have concluded that I will take you up on the offer! I just sold my old bike and now have some money left over that I can use to pay for those seminars. I am going to see how soon I can get this done, I am going to look at the dates and send my form in. I will keep you posted on the status of things as they get processed.
It was a cold November morning in the valley of Cowan, when I fired my first shot. It was a smooth and clean feeling after I pulled the trigger. I than saw the deer hunker as the slug hit its side, and it began to run away from us. Dad, knowing I had made a good shot, still decided to jump out of the blind window to end the animals suffering. Unfortunately, when his foot caught, it was all over from then.
In conclusion, I am grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work with my
As the only other person except for my mother who works in our family, I have to support her. Everything I earn goes towards rent payments each month. If there are any leftovers, I try to cover my personal expenses, such as club dues. As a fan of debate and public speaking, I decided to join Mock Trial at the beginning of my junior year.
Then there is the economy itself that contributes to the homelessness population. With increasing costs on goods and services, the limited amount of jobs available in the United States, and the increase of natural disasters among the world, people are finding it harder and harder to get by, and are often living paycheck to paycheck
Chapter one: The Usual —Laura sighed as she wiped the small drips of sweat off her forehead. She had been on her feet since 9 am and it was currently 6:45 pm, her shift was going to end in fifteen minutes. Laura had waited all day for him to arrive and order his usual, but for some odd reason he hadn't shown up yet. She figured he had found another coffee shop where he wouldn't have to see her face. She took a deep breath and held it in for a few seconds.
day would offer a real-life test. As Carla Berkowitz walked up to classmates Jessica Quaggin-Smith and Max Kazer on Monday afternoon at Lake Shore Park, not far from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, she noticed a shirtless man in gym shorts and black sneakers leaning back on a nearby bench with his head tilted back. "He looked really uncomfortable. His mouth was open and he was just in a really awkward position. Something didn 't look right, didn 't feel right to me," said Berkowitz, 23, who lives in the Gold Coast.
As I walk into the room filled with, “A jury of my peers”, I begin to question how fair or how biased we will all be. I am always one to question the system, but I know that I cannot do anything about the system itself, so I have to just go along with it, and follow the crowd. I guess my need to question everything is what I bring to the table of the jury room, although I may not have the courage to voice my opinions. I am sad to say that being on a jury is not a job that suits me well. I am not in any way patient, and I genuinely hate confrontation.
Let me set the scene, it’s a balmy night in Copenhagen, the empty streets are filled with the sound of our feet hitting the pavement, reverberating off the buildings, rippling through the air like a pebble dropped into a deep pond. The time is 9 p.m., to be exact, and Kathryn and I are in search of something to pique our interest. Kathryn and I have been acquaintances since the age of 8 when we met performing in musical theatre. She was kind, outgoing, and wore a yellow raincoat to practice everyday, even though it never actually rained. I was quiet, timid, and my clothing consisted of a variety of sweat pants and dance clothes.
I realized that the position where I stood was one highly anticipated and wanted in my heart. I was overjoyed that I could finally help others in their time of misunderstanding and doubt. Many years went like this, helping others and achieving high grades, but I realized that something was wrong. I didn’t invest myself in my partners. To truly enhance a group’s work, one needed to initiate a deeper understanding with one another to create greater solutions and outcomes.
Everyone will find themselves in a trial at some point in life, the difference in how individuals deal with the situation at hand can greatly impact their future. My first significant trial was fairly tame, but left a lasting impact on my life. I was sixteen years old and first driving, I like most first time drivers became overly confident and didn’t provide my full attention while behind the wheel. I was being unsafe taking focus off the road by messing with the radio. This is when I ran into the rear bumper of another car.
We were always communicating with each other and working to equally share parts of the project. We each had specific responsibilities within our groups; we put together the Google Doc as a group (up until the creative strategy) and within that had specific jobs. Madason was definitely a wonderful asset to the group and was an excellent leader as she always communicated with us and showed initiative, especially with transferring the information from the Google Doc to Microsoft Word and with the PowerPoint; her strong work ethic was extremely appreciated. Megan was also a great asset to the team as she helped a lot with making the paper tactic sketches into digital and essentially assembling some of them along with Madason; she was always working to meet up as a group and help others when they needed it. Becca also served as a good asset, she communicated well, greatly helped with the project through the Google Doc and research, and was available to meet up as a group.
Together, we worked as a group to design our poster and cite our sources that we used to explain our
