Recommended: Importance of teaching writing
Reading "Night" by Elie Wiesel drastically influenced my view on life. The horrendous depictions of life during the holocaust era described by Elie was traumatizing. Reading each line in the book gave me goosebumps. Imaging that a time era in which jews were oppressed to that of a gruesome extent is beyond conceivable. The book allowed me to reassess my life.
A time when I was faced with a significant challenge, but learned to overcome it was sophomore and junior year in history. History has always seem to be the class I tend to struggle in, no matter who I sit next to or how many notes I take. Sophomore as time when on to second semester I realized I wasn’t doing well; I was procrastinating with homework, not doing well on test, and stated to pay less attention in class. I got a D for the first semester and when I saw that on my report card I knew I had to change something. I realized history need to become a much higher priority.
All my life, I was always told that I was so smart and advanced for my age. Everything came easy to me: math, writing, reading, sports, and even playing many instruments. All this came with little work. So I seldom ever had to study or practice for anything. This occurred all throughout elementary and middle school.
When I started high school, the club that excited me the most, was National Honors Society. So, at the first chance I got, in my sophomore year. After being a member for a year, I quickly realized that I wanted to take on a leadership opportunity in the club. So, I took a shot for the stars, and campaigned for being president of Honors Society. Though I had some competition, I put my all into composing a speech, and I won the presidency, and I have been president since.
Throughout high school I have tried to take classes that were not only challenging, but would also be relevant to my future. I have taken nine AP level classes since sophomore year, and I have thrived in the difficult coursework that is meant to be college level. So far, I have proven my hard work and dedication by passing all of the AP tests thus far. I have also taken advantage of the advanced math coursework that is two years ahead than normal. I began this track since the fifth grade, and I continued and progressed all these year.
At the CIA, “Food Is Life” means that food is a major ingredient in your life. To others food might mean good taste, but to me food means so much more. Food is what I see, obviously eat, but most importantly, it’s what I think about all day. Food means everything to me and that is why I wish to enroll into the CIA because I know that I will find my success there.

I am asking you for a recommendation because I feel like I got a lot out of your class and you have gotten to know me well too. One of the aspects of your class that I remember the most was how you taught us in an interactive manner. I enjoyed the discussions/debates that the class had over the articles we read for homework. Another thing that you did and that I remember was how you made rhetoric simple to understand, so that now, I can use it in my own writing. I have used these rhetorical analysis skills to help prepare for and perform well in Model United Nations Competitions, where I have won multiple awards.

Mondays were always dreadful, especially when you go to Liberty Middle School in Columbus Ohio. Every single day my sister would complain about going to school as she would look down at the dead brown leaves. But for me I liked going to school, I liked all of my teachers especially Mr.Nicolosi. He was so nice and he had a side of humor too. Anyways, I always loved going to school but that all changed when that horrible accident happened.
Most students in college will have had some kind of writing experiences in their life, most students will list high school is where they had most of their writing experiences and a bit from prev college classes, find out what their strengths are and what their weak areas are, most students will also learn to develop a pattern for how they will find their process of writing an essays, they will also learn what kinds of writing they do and do not like. I have had a few writing experiences the past few years leading up to now. My past writing experiences have all been in college I learned how to write an essay in my English 252 and 262 classes. “Never neglect an opportunity for improvement,” I would go back and tell myself so if time traveling was one day made possible. As a junior in high school, grade was everything I obsessed with. Excellent grades fabricated myself an impeccable appearance, as well as a deeply rooted concept of being perfect. Similar to many Vietnamese immigrants, I was not judged by my individual character, but rather by stereotype.
In my high school career, I have taken advanced English courses. The most notable class I took was AP English Language and Composition my junior year. This is where I got a taste of what college composition and drafting research arguments were like. A challenge I faced when writing researched arguments in high school was finding reputable sources to support my claims. When I took your class here at SLU, I had another chance to face this challenge again.
