Beyond visiting family in other parts of the Southeast like in South Carolina and Texas, I have
Day 2 Immigrant. That word gives me a label here. I am crossing the border to the U.S because my parents think it will give us a new beginning and a better life. I think they’re wrong. Our life in El Salvador was fine: We had a nice house and we were healthy.
So much has happened to me in my 14 years of living! I’ve changed schools twice, made the Rocky Mountain Ballroom team, and met my best friends ever in the 2nd grade. So much more has happened in my life but these are some of the best things! All of these have helped me get through thick and thin. Changing schools the first time was pretty rough.
Off to Tahoe One day when I was visiting Tahoe my mom called a family meeting and she said we were all as a family going to move to Incline Village. I started crying on the inside but on the outside I was showing much exitement. I felt really sad but I didn’t want to disappoint my mom so I never told her.
Being a first-generation Canadian and when Canada is as diverse as it is, I never got the opportunity to truly connect with my own religion. I realized early on that having that knowledge of diversity provides a competitive advantage in the business environment, as communication and connections are easily built. To accomplish this, I decided to join the International Languages Program in grade 6; however, even with the four years I spent in the program, I never truly built the connection that I had so desired. It was not until grade 12 when I had that opportunity, as David Suzuki Secondary School (D.S.S.S.) introduced its first ever Sikh Student Association (S.S.A.), a collection of numerous Sikhs throughout D.S.S.S. Upon joining this club,
The date is August 22, 1791. Today is the day when we, the Haitian slaves, plan on massacring the French troops who will be arriving on the beach of Saint- Domingue. My father Ricardo and his army are sitting in a circle discussing strategies. He picks up a stick, draws a line in the sand and points at the right side of the line. ¨This is the sea where the French will come in from.¨
While gazing at the stars on a beautiful winter night, I received a phone call. It was mother. Whimpering, she said "will you please come to the living room. " My mind racing of a million thoughts, "what did I do?" "I hope I 'm not in trouble."
Natashia Apangchan Canadian Identity As an immigrant, and of the 7 years that I’ve stayed here in Canada, I’ve come to know some of the Canadian identity. I have lots on mind but the things that stand out the most is that Canadians are so patriotic and generous, and diverse. To me, I see the Canadians as patriotic because their love for their country is very strong. I have seen the pride in their eyes when they say that they are Canadian.
This would be my fourth time visiting Mexico. Crossing the border is the most nerve racking thing that you could do and I know from experience how dangerous it can be driving to your destination. It was the December the week before finals and my parents had planned on taking a trip to
My head leaned against the window as I sleep, abrupt, my whole body gets tossed forward causing my face to hit the seat in front of me then my body jerked back to my seat. I rubbed my head. The lady sitting across from me asked if I’m ok. I smiled back and assured to her that I am fine then looked out the window and came to the realization that we’ve reached the border. The bus driver, Patrick, makes the announcement.
My mom told me that of course she missed Mexico. She told me that the only reason she left was because she knew that raising a family in the United States would be a lot better and easier. She told me that the most she missed was her parents and brothers and sisters. She missed them the most and she didn’t even get the chance to see her mom and dad one more time because they both died not so long ago. She wanted to see them so bad
I remember the day when I landed in Charlottesville the place that I thought of as home. It was 17 August 2015. At first, this place felt so cozy and comfortable that I didn’t feel like leaving this place forever. The people were so welcoming; it was a treat to have chosen a college, which provides you a homely feel. If I remember it correctly, it was a warm Wednesday afternoon when I contemplated, is home the right place for me to grow?
The Sport is a devastating road to heartbreak and failure. (I suggest, To experience sports, you have to experience heartbreak and failure - sounds a bit awkward to say “the sport”). It is the definition of it. Don't get me wrong, sports can lead to success, fame, and many other glorious things that others can't imagine. Like the money, land and the "acquaintances"
The Enlightenment was an important turning point in history, and there were a lot of different effects of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment brought a lot of new ideas about the purpose of government, human rights, and how the government should be set up. Philosophers like Thomas Hobbs, John Locke, and Baron de Montesquieu shared their opinions. Thomas Hobbs, an English philosopher born in 1588, wrote the book, Leviathan (1651), about the purpose of government. He believed that absolute authority of government was necessary.
