Several individuals from different ethnicities, races, and citizenships, compose a society. The United Sates allow us to have a close interaction with numerous individuals from diverse backgrounds. In my own case I have been able to interact with many incredible individuals from all over the world who come from extremely different backgrounds. I am a proud Mexican who cherishes respect towards diversity. Coming from a very suffered country I am able to understand not only what does it means to feel proud to be a Latino, but also I can feel acquainted with the pain and struggle that our community has to face every day.
The Reason the United States Government Has Failed its People It is now January 3rd, 1931, and I have been unemployed and homeless for over a year now living on the streets of Chicago. About ten years ago, I started working in a factory that created underarm deodorant. Around a year and a half ago, my wage was decreased. Eventually I was fired.
Baseball is what many call “America’s Pastime”. It is the game that never fails to bring me from the highest highs to the lowest lows. The second that you think you are the best, the game will humble you. When you are at a loss for confidence, you will do something amazing that will turn your game around. Nothing beats the smell of the spring air, the dirty pants, the laughs with teammates and the glory of winning.
I am still the same Ginny. Except we are 3 years into this horrible Depression and I am now 20 years old. It’s been awhile since I’ve been here, but today is a great time to write. I now live on the streets with my parents and even elderly Granny. We live fairly okay for these times.
In the novel “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck, the author discusses socio-economic issues in society. The story is centered around the Joad family, who have been kicked off of their land and must move to California to survive. Throughout their journey, the Joad’s encounter problems with their vehicle, authority, and housing conditions as well as losing family members along this journey. The novel depicts common issues that arise from living in a capitalistic society. Steinbeck does an impeccable job of exploring whether being confrontational is a virtue or a flaw in the main character, Tom Joad.
The new American hero (Just a quick look) Can you see the handsome young man sitting by my side, driving through the forest, behind the wheel of his decadent truck? Yes. I would trust him with my life (sip of vodka).
What does it mean to be an American today? Or rather, what does being an American entail? Does that pertain to a certain individual’s perspective? Or is Americanism defined through a collective consciousness projected around the world? Over the course of time, Americans have gone through various embodiments of who they are, without loosing the essence of what they represent.
The American experience is not unfamiliar to me, I have been visiting America since I was a child and as a child I always wanted to move to America. My first visit here I fell in love with the culture specifically the freedom of expression. However the opportunity did not emerge for me to move to America legitimately and as promising young child, I did not want to damage my future by moving to a country illegally where I could not live to my full potential. I stayed in Jamaica and I completed my University education as a registered nurse and had become comfortable with my life in Jamaica. I started working the spring of 2013 and upon receival of my first paycheck, I was reminded that this is not the place I wanted to be.
When I was a bit younger I used to envy guys that had awesome cars. From Mustangs and Beamers, to Range Rovers and Gelandewagens. In my extremely narrow frame of mind at the time, I felt that if I acquired an elite vehicle, then I would reach a state of fulfillment and happiness. At least this is what was pumped into my head through a constant deluge of television and magazine advertisements.
I may have become the new rock bottom, but it was now entirely because I put myself there. I was no longer being bullied, thank god, but I was left with the after affects of torture that someone else pushed onto me. Instead of being told that I was all those awful things that they called me, I now had my own brain repeating these things to me over and over again. This continuous loop that I could never escape from, was almost worse than any of the bullying that I could go through. It was also a courtesy of my anxiety and depression ganging up on me; with my depression telling me that I could never be good enough and the anxiety comparing me to others who were better than me, I continued to fall apart.
Are you a real American? I 'm not a real American by my standards. You can be a better American by helping all you see. I will try to do this from now on. I may not be strong or very bright
I personally believe it’s better to aim low and be happy that I achieved what I wanted rather than plan too far ahead and be disappointed in having not achieved that specific goal. While this sounds like it would screw me in the long term so far in this life minus a few things that were out of my control then I have done a pretty good job so far. So now for the reason why I believe that you risk hurting yourself in the long road by planning ahead too far, the brain does better with short term goals, and finally why I believe this to be the case using examples from my life. I would also like to apologize for how dark this essay might get on that last reason and hope that this doesn’t off put me in your eyes. (talk about how depression started
Every day, every person is faced with a challenge, small conflicts that enable them from moving forward, and each day, each innovative person, finds a way to overcome their obstacles and move forward. If every person, every day, moved passed these obstacles, solved problems and worked together, then we would overcome the conflicts, the feuds, and create resolutions that better every individual in our country’s future. When considering the future, we tend to think about ourselves initially, and then close family and friends, but we never take a step back to look at the big picture, to clearly envision life for everyone as a whole in this country and what was done to be in those conditions. Typically Every day, every person is faced with a challenge, diminutive conflicts that enable them from moving forward, and each day, each innovative person, finds a way to overcome their obstacles and move forward.
I want every material thing in the world. I want new games, new clothes, a new phone, and a new car, and a whole bunch of additional things. Most of the time my parents are able to get me everything I demand, but I just want more and more. I'm not satisfied with what I already have; I basically just take everything for granted, and I realized this after I took one trip and experienced one bizarre event. At first before my trip, I was constantly begging for items with costly logos.
It was a cold, snowy day. Jakey, Scott and I got ready to go to school. Jakey was 17, I was 14, and scott was 20. Jakey and I had to go to school while our dad was dropping off Scott for a College interview for MIT. We didn’t take the bus that day because of how cold it was at the bus stop, so our dad drove us to school.
