Personal Narrative: The Contemplative Practitioner

So you’re probably thinking after watching this short clip, what is this Secret, and why am I talking about this in our course on The Contemplative Practitioner, and what does this even have to do with meditating?

Some of you may be thinking that you’ve heard all this before. Or may have heard the saying “your thoughts become your actions” and you can picture and visualize whatever you want in life and achieve it, and that is certainly is far from the truth. How could that even be possible?

That’s exactly what I thought too when I watched the documentary on the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. But then after reading this book, which I will tell you more about throughout this presentation, and actually listening to the messages from it, I changed my perspective.

I didn’t entirely believe everything the book states, which is why I am warning you all right now about it too.

And nor did I think, we can easily achieve everything we want. But most certainty, this book did help me during a very stressful time in my life. Because of what I was feeling and going through during this time, I had panic attack during this presentation. I couldn’t speak or move, and I couldn’t remove myself from situation. I remember all classmates trying to encourage me to talk and telling me that its okay and that I can do this presentation. But I just couldn’t. My negative thoughts began to affect my behavior and my actions to the point that I was starting to loose confidence in myself. The came our final “Grade 12 Graduation,” at this point most of us still hadn’t heard from back all the universities.
