The Creation of my Political Views A liberal is someone who believes in limited government regulation of human behavior and supports rapid change. A conservative on the other hand, believes in more regulation from the government and supports gradual change. I believe that I am a liberal and I will vote as a Democrat in the upcoming election. Some factors that may lead to my identification as a liberal and a Democrat are because I am a female, I advocate for liberal issues, and my political predispositions that influenced me when I was young. More women identify as liberal than conservative and, likewise, women also vote Democrat more than they vote Republican or any other party. I have grown up knowing which Democratic candidate my parents would vote for and why. Because of my parents negative view of most Republicans, I have never even considered voting in that party. My Father, who was born in Virginia, grew up in a conservative and Republican family, however, he is one of the few people in his family that is a Democrat. My mother was raised by two Democrats who helped her form her political perspectives. I have also lived in low income and federally owned housing my entire life. My family has been receiving some sort of government assistance for as long as I can remember. Another government benefit that I receive comes from Social Security. My father gets money every month from Social Security for being mentally ill. I also received financial aid from Social Security because my father, who is no longer with my mother, was and is not able to pay for child support. Pew Research Center specifies that about ninety-one percent of solid liberals believe that "Government aid to the poor does more good than harm, because people can’t get out of poverty until their basic needs are met" (2014).
