It was the last inning in our all-star game, and we were losing 10 to 8. Our team had 2 outs and we couldn’t get the third. Our pitcher was doing bad, throwing all balls, while all of us in the field were tired, ready to fall asleep at any moment. There goes another walk. They score again.
Several individuals from different ethnicities, races, and citizenships, compose a society. The United Sates allow us to have a close interaction with numerous individuals from diverse backgrounds. In my own case I have been able to interact with many incredible individuals from all over the world who come from extremely different backgrounds. I am a proud Mexican who cherishes respect towards diversity. Coming from a very suffered country I am able to understand not only what does it means to feel proud to be a Latino, but also I can feel acquainted with the pain and struggle that our community has to face every day.
When I was was younger, I was a caterpillar crawling around trying to get through life, waiting to turn into the beautiful butterfly I know I could soon become. I made good decisions along with bad ones, saw the beauty in life as well as the unpleasant. I was like everyone else trying to be their own person, but now as I look at myself in the mirror I can finally see who I really am. I see myself as the beautiful butterfly I once dreamed of becoming, ready to fly down my own path. I have been in my chrysalis and I am finally out and ready to fly into my bright future.
The first Co-Curricular event I attended was the Harried Tubman Portrayal on Wednesday, October 26th from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the Julia Ball Auditorium. Dr. Daisy Century acted out the life of Harriet Tubman. Gwynedd Mercy University has a theme of #MakeMercyReal which correlates with this event. Dr. Century started out as a science teacher before she took on her acting career. She retired early and began acting as many historic figures but this day, she was Harriet Tubman.
In my freshman year, I made a choice to relinquish some of my social life and replace that time giving back to my community. I joined a non-profit organization called the Volunteer Corp. We spent our time at food banks, park clean-ups, and even hosting local events. This experience left a lasting impression on me in many ways; however, one experience changed my perspective on life and serve as a constant reminder of how the smallest contribution to others can be the most powerful. St. Joseph University, in Philadelphia, held an event called Hand in Hand. It was an event dedicated to raising awareness for people with physical and/or developmental disabilities.
“Crack”, “click” was what I heard before the most excruciating pain I have ever felt filled my right knee. It was on October 7th, it was just weeks before my junior season was going to start. I was at Massillon Washington high school at wrestling practice like I was almost every day. I was drilling with the assistant coach Percy McGee hitting single legs which was my favorite move. About 40 seconds into the drill I hit another single and all of a sudden my knee locked at about 90 degrees.
My whole life long, I have been trying to find a place where I can truly fit in. I have also been worried about what I would do when I grew up. I was torn between my passion for horses and my passion for performing. There was no way I could give up one for the other, so I searched the net for Christian colleges that had majors in both equine studies and vocal performance and there it appeared: Asbury University. It was manna from Heaven.
Next year at Embry-Riddle I plan start studying Cyber Intelligence and Security. Ever since middle school I knew I had a developing interest in the field of computer science and spent most of my time building the skills to excel in my classes. One of the first projects I got to use the computer on was a video for the Oregon Trail. I decided that it would be best to design an advertisement to showcase the facts in a new and creative way. When my group turned the project in, and it was shown to the class my teacher rewrote the assignment according to what we did and used it as an example of great work when recruiting new people.
Throughout high school I have tried to take classes that were not only challenging, but would also be relevant to my future. I have taken nine AP level classes since sophomore year, and I have thrived in the difficult coursework that is meant to be college level. So far, I have proven my hard work and dedication by passing all of the AP tests thus far. I have also taken advantage of the advanced math coursework that is two years ahead than normal. I began this track since the fifth grade, and I continued and progressed all these year.
I don’t know what it’s going to be like until we start reading more about it.” When the new changes are mentioned to seniors who have taken the SAT before it was changed, there are mixed opinions. Senior Susan Gonzalez supported these new changes, saying that “the SAT needs to become more relevant to the way students are being taught and how they are learning.” Senior Denise Garcia, however, remains neutral on the topic. “I don’t know if this is the change I expected.
I am currently 16 years old I attend a magnet school named Miami Arts Studio 6-12 @Zeldaglazer my art is dance. I have been dancing for about 5 years and its my hobbie. All of my classes are honors and my GPA is a 3.3 and unwaited GPA is a 3.0 I am a hard working student that loves school. As my community service i go to police explores. A misconception about the Walt Disney Company is that they only operate some of the most visited theme parks around the globe. However they are much more than that. In fact, they are a 27 billion dollar a year global entertainment company started by an American business man by the name of Walt and Roy Disney in 1923(Rack, 2009). The Disney Company has the goal of being a company that recognizes the value that consumers put on family fun by offering several different brands that range from theme parks around the world, family style resorts, a movie production company that has produced some of the most popular animated movies such as; The Lion King, Cinderella and Bambi. They also pride themselves on making fun clean television programs for children on
I am extremely excited to be able to study abroad, however my GPA is a possible deterrent to this opportunity. Last semester, I had 16 credits and it was my first semester in the business school. I also began a role as peer mentor, switched jobs mid semester, and moved off campus as well. All of this adjustment contributed to my semester not starting off as strong as it should have. I really struggled with Accounting 100.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.
My capstone activities will primarily focus on learning how to properly read, write, and speak Hmong. I will also be adding history courses with topics related to the Hmong because I personally feel that I do not know enough about my roots and history. I know that in order to be successful in who I want to be or what I want to be, I need to start with myself. As a young child, I had always had the desire to learn how to read and write in my native language.
